No calyxes, no potency?

This plant is a mystery. Single column, pics from December 3, 2016 show a vigorous but odd single stalk growth. Leaves have been curled under since they first sprouted nearly 3 months ago. Nothing I do can seem to straighten them.

The 12/3 pics show how dark green the leaves were and the latest ones today, 12/31/16, show that there are few leaves left, and they are drying up and withering, small & shriveled.

Plenty of trichs but none have yet turned amber after flowering for nearly 45 days. Not a calyx to be found.

Is this going to be a poor plant for potency? Aren't swollen clayxes a sign of it? And the absence of them a sign that this will be a throw away?

I'd like to reveg it or clone it to try again, in the outdoors, in the spring, keeping it indoors thru the winter, IF it can reveg.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated since is smells pretty good but unlike any aroma I have noticed from other plants. Not the typical piney smell

Looks sick, over or under fed. Cells dehydrated. 45 days is a bit early. Might just not be a keeper. Never will know if a keeper if not dialed in.

I can’t tell from the picture but does the plant have any hairs (stigmas)? The stigmas usually come out of the calyx. Never seen a plant that has a naked pistil (no calyx).

More calyx = more space for resin = more potential potency.

I would say how ever resin quality matters the most for the best all around plants.


That is one sick plant, horribly grown, it will get you high I see decent trichomes, but it will be far from its maximum potential.

Poorly grown plants usually lack in smell, taste and potency.

Looks to be very dry. Those dead yellow leaves laying at the base of the plant were a victim of under watering.

Looks like the plant is starved and thirsty. You have flowers so its not a loss. Feed and water it.

Even if it doesnt really recover and the buds dont even end up smokeable if it has trichs you can still make rosin or hash of some sort from it. Dont give up on it yet.

Why on earth would you want to reveg this plant? Quality is about both the environment and the genetics. Aside from not looking like it would live through a re-veg, I doubt that it has "keeper" genetics. You're best off starting from other seeds and going light on the nutes, keeping temps in check.
