LST/topping

What size pots are you using? (Include how many subjects to pot) 12x10 inch pot

What substrate/medium are you using? What brand of soil mixture are you using?(percentage of perlite, vermiculite...etc?)
its a basic potting soil I got from a nursery, not a huge amount of perlite, lots of organic stuff in there though

also has 5%phosporus, 2% sulphur, with traces of boron, manganese, iron, zinc, molybdenum (the brand is COMPO, its German, sorry)
How much of each nutrient are you using with how much water?

I've been trimming off the dead leaves

Have any pest chemicals been used? If so what and when? no

Are plant's infected with pest's? haven't seen anything, most I've seen is a leaf that some insect nibbled a bit off, nothing else.

Now, My Story: I was forced to leave my plant alone for two weeks due to an urgent trip overseas, and decided to risk my plant drying out. before I left I fed and watered. the plant is in a fair sized pot for its size, so I figured at the least it would survive. on returning, many leaves have gone partially yellow, as have some of the topmost calyxes. the situation has not improved, even with normal watering and feeding. most of the leaves are affected, however some are remaining healthy.

sorry I don't have any PH values or Temps, this is my first time and I didn't really want to invest too much, which seems to be biting me in the arse now :(

the lights were actually a lot closer before I left, like 2 inches away. its under CFLs, and its comfortably warm in there. I can't say anything about the PH, I have no clue what it is, I'd like to get an opinion before I buy a test kit because I really don't have money to throw at this.

It's a conundrum indeed, i understand you not wanting to spend money if you can help it, times are hard for sure but if you don't spend a few dollars fixing your problem you'll get out next to nothing, you could get aquarium test strips for a few bucks or better $15/20 gets you a cheap pen, 'lend yourself' the cash and swap the first few grammes for a few dollars to pay yourself back, ebay is fine for cheap 6 to 12 month ph pens, cost 8 or 9 pound English whatever that is $$ wise? failing that you still need a remedy! so you need to leach your soil to ensure your not too acidic in there and with luck your plants should start to recover, stick to a very light feed, you need a bloom food, high in P and K and low in N, again you really need a meter so you can give the plants what they need in a range they can use it, only a meter/ strips etc will help you

I am asking a master the question for him, but COULD HE

"supercrop the burnt tops off" ???

and try and let them finish like that???

I would say definite burn from the light if not for the random way the larger leaves look. They look like a nute or PH problem.

Since you don't want to buy a ph kit I would top dress with some dolomite lime and water it in well.

I would also cut all the burnt tops off, the bud below it can fill in some what, you don't want to smoke the burnt stuff regardless.

Looking at it I would say there is too much nitrogen going for you and I would water with regular water for a while, a flush may even be in your best interest.

The aquarium test strips are really not that bad. Sure you don't get the potential accuracy of a pH meter but you don't get the potential inaccuracies either (bad probe, bad calibration, etc). In your situation I'd probably be going to the aquarium store as soon as possible, but your plants have quite probably been burned by heat or light as well, the plants are much less tolerant of heat during a draught, and two weeks without water is a pretty long while.

It also looks like you're a bit heavy on the nutes, at least the N. And you NEED a thermometer, but nothing fancy, you can probably pick up a small cheap mercury thermometer for less then a dollar (I got three in a pack for a dollar).
