Nitrogen or Magnesium Deficiency?

Here's the story - Got 10 girls from a friend of a friend and haven't gotten the most information from him. When I received them, they were well past the stage when I would have normally rooted them. They had roots over 6-8" long and were still in grow plugs.

Once I received them, they were potted and watered, kept under light flouro for a couple days, then under the lighting described below for a couple of days. After that, I gave them a 1/2 strength dose of nutrients (comprised of fish, seaweed, humic acid, soil activator, molasses). They seemed to pick up a little after the first feeding, but haven't gotten better in color and are starting to droop again. :wallbash:

I'm thinking either a nitrogen deficiency from being so long in the clone stage or a magnesium one from the same plus the fact I'm using distilled water.

Would appreciate any insights.

SOIL:

How long has this problem been going on?
1 week.

What STRAIN are you growing?
Don't know.

What was the establishing technique? (seed or clone?)
Clones.

What is the age of your plants?
Assuming about 4-6 weeks.

How long have they been in the soil mixture they are in now?
One week.

How Tall are the plants?
6-8"

What PHASE (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in?
Early veg, just put into ground after cloning.

What Technique are you using? (SOG, SCROG etc)
None yet.

What size pots are you using? (Include how many subjects to pot)
1 quart, 1 per pot.

What substrate/medium are you using? What brand of soil mixture are you using?(percentage of perlite, vermiculite...etc?)
50% organic potting mix, 25% perlite, 25% vermiculite.

What Nutrient's are you using?
John's Recipe - Lady Bug Brand - Organic - 3 - 1.5 - 2
http://www.ladybugbrand.com/fertilizer.htm#fertilizer-1

How much of each nutrient are you using with how much water? *Knowing the brand is very helpful*
One feeding so far of 1/2 TBSP per Gallon of water, per label for small plants.

How often are you feeding?
Only once so far.

What is the TDS/EC/PPM of your nutrients used?
Will check tonight.

What is the pH of the "RUN-OFF"?
Will check tonight.

What method of pH test was administered? Using Strips? pH pen?
pH pen.

How often are you watering?
Once dry and light to pick up.

When was your last feeding and how often are you feeding?
Approximately one week ago.

What size bulb are you using?
70w MH / 150w HPS

What is the distance to the canopy?

8"

What is your RH Factor? (Relative Humidity)

20-40%

What is the canopy temperature?
70-80F

What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include fluctuation range)
60-80F

What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.)
Plenty.

Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ?
Oversized squirrel cage blower changing out air in the box about 4 or 5 times a minute.

Is the fan blowing directly at plants?
No. Passive intake draws air past the plants.

Is the grow substrate constantly wet or moist?
No, not unusually so.

Is your water HARD or SOFT?
Using distilled.

What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water?
Distilled.

Are you using water from a water softener?
No.

Has plant been recently pruned, cloned or pinched?

Was cloned an unknown length of time ago.

Have any pest chemicals been used? If so what and when?
No.

Are plant's infected with pest's?
No.

with the edges curling up in the last picture and the discoloration between the veins i would say mag def... calmag+ from botanacare or epsom salts would help. just my 2 cents..

I agree with Max.......mostly because there is no ph or ppm number to work with here. Need more info than "will check tonight".

Quite right. Was just hoping someone might have recognized the problem and I would have lucked out.

Digital pH/TDS meters, calibrated today.

Nutrient solution is:

3.3 pH
420 ppm

Testing runoff of distilled water through the pot:
6.75 pH

Bought some MagiCal today and plan to mix full strength into the (also full strength) nutrient feeding tomorrow. Will also supplement with 1/2 strength foliar feeding (MagiCal) every day until they come out of it.

Sound like a good solution?

Thanks for the help.

if you used blackstrap molasses in the feed you gave them I highly doubt it is a mag def. blackstrap has percentages of 10-20% mag usually which is as good as a calmag type product. I don't really know what the problem may be but I just I would throw in what I did know. make sure you are using 1 tbs per gallon.

double check your pen calibration and batteries cuz 3.3 is way too low and wouldn't let mag into plant thru roots. not sure what soil likes for pH but i'd guess 6.6 (???) try raising your pH and hit em with a mild mag foliar and wetting agent right before the lights come on, make sure you get underneath the leaves,,, that's what i would do.....
