Nitrogen Deficiency...

Hi Folks...a quick one for ya`s...i got a girl 4 weeks into flower...she started with a few yellowing leaves and i left her too it...last night i checked on her and she looked a little droopy...i flushed her with clean ph balanced water...when i checked her this evening...almost all the leaves were very very yellow and drooping far south...i`ve searched my literature and it all points to a nitrogen deficiency...i can`t figure out why as all the girls are eating the same meals yet this one don`t look atall well...she`s also the biggest of the group..anyone any quick fast acting ideas to perk this lovely lady up....i`d hate to lose her...

Apologies if there is already a thread on here but i couldn`t find one in a search and i`m kinda desperate.

Thanx

some plants like a little more of something and less of something else than others, its normal. although the N deficiency isnt. you needed more slow realease N in the soil (guessing grow is soil?) to last to the end flowering.

Well....the lady in question was put to sleep at 6pm today GMT :badday: ...she had passed the point of no return...upon a detailed autopsy, i conclude that the cause of death was ROOT ROT....she`s been plucked and hung and will be attending her cremation in around 2 weeks...underdeveloped buds, but lots of little crystals will mean she didn`t die entirely in vain... :woohoo:

On a more serious note...i`ve never claimed to be an expert :chin: ...although i know more than someone who knows very little...i`ve never in 5 years of growing see a lady die so damn suddenly...i`m gonna put it down to the freakishly hot weather we`ve had in the uk the past week n a half...temps musta been getting outa control while i`ve been away at work...lesson learnt...off to B&Q on saturday to purchase some air conditioning...Strange thing is the other ladies are still fine...i`m always fanatical about cleanliness in my rooms...musta been an act of god eh..

Oh well, i`ve babbled enough...apologies for rabbiting on but as we all know...a death in the family is kinda hard to take and we all handle things differently.

Bye for now.

whats your res temps? this is the biggest cause of root rot, might wanna invest in a chiller, best investment ive made 349.00 the plants has shown A big improvement since, healthy girls, healthy roots with temps of the res at 68 degrees

Hi betterboy....were would i buy a chiller.?

The roots were around 29deg c but that was at 6pm tonight....so what the root temps have been in the daytime i couldn`t tell you..

Plus...i`m now growing in Flo Grows so could i use a chiller for 8 seperate systems.? or would it only chill one?

29c is extremely high temp for the roots...you should be aiming for under 22c to keep the levels of disolved oxygen high enough. If you don't already have one, I'd highly recommend some air pumps and stones in there to help oxygenate the H2O.

Yeah my friend i`m using a compressor and a 9 inch air disc in all reservoirs...so i don`t think oxygen is the problem...it musta been the freaky heat we had...lesson learnt though..

Thanx for the replys.. :)

Use hydroguard from beginning to end to prevent root rot. This is a good solution if you can't afford a water chiller. Sometimes my temps get up to 80 deg F but with the hydroguard I never get root rot.

Also keeping o2 saturation as high as possible is very important. I had a 180gph powerhead + 6w air pump (20-60g aquarium rated) in a 10g DWC tub and held off root rot for a long time with 80*+ res temps and Hydroguard. I decided the temps were too high and I would take out the powerhead to cool down the res (water pumps warm the water). As soon as I did this the root rot came on very quickly.

Basically a high % of dissolved o2 (powerful pump) will give you a little extra leeway. Same with a root rot preventing supplement. Bio Buckets and some recirculating systems are a good example of this. They can stand higher res temps because the flow, o2, and beneficials are strived for.

To Darken, is `hydroguard` similiar to `guardian angel`? which is supposedly `ideal for hot weather root problems`

And Sauce, i use a massive air stone in each system run by a 150wt compressor in conjunction with co2 tabs..so maybe i`ll try some hydroguard or guardian angel...anything is worth a try.

Thanx for the input guyz...much appreciated.

I asked my local shop about this and they said Guardian Angel is more for when you have problems with the plant and it's like a last resort to bring a plant back to life. Hydroguard and Florashield (few others) are preventitive measures and are meant to be used all the time. Not sure how accurate this is but the guys at the shop seem pretty knowledgable.

From my experience the pump matters way more than the stone. The stone is just a way to distribute the air. The pump is what actually supplies the power and as such will be pretty similar no matter what stone you use. I do believe some stones work better than others, but basically the pump is the important part. However that's a huge pump so you should be golden.
