I haven't seen a lot of reviews on Nirvana's "Northern Lights Pure Indica" strain on IC so I thought I would document my experience growing this strain. My setup is a 250 watt HPS and I used this for both veg and flower. My style is soil, LST and mostly organics.
Last September I planted 5 seeds, 2 seeds failed to sprout leaving me with 3 plants that were veg'd for 43 days to about 6-7" tall. It shouldn't have taken this long to veg but I found out part way through veg that my 2 year old FFOF soil was almost completely depleted of nutrients, and I almost starved my plants to death. After I transplanted into 1.4 gallon pots at day 36 of veg, adding 3 teaspoons of bloodmeal and 2 tablespoons of lime per gallon of soil, my problem was solved. They did the best when the ph was between 6.1-6.5 and daytime room temperatures between 72-78deg. Two out of the three plants turned out to be female. One female had more indica characteristics and the other was more sativa. But really they were both very indica dominant not really any sativa. The indica was smaller, had tighter buds and produced less weighing in at 1.85OZ dried. The sativa had big "foxtail" buds and produced more yielding 2.34OZ. This was a total of 4.19OZ dried, both were weighed after 7 days of hang drying before being put into jars. The indica I flowered for 56 days and the sativa for 63 days. Both pheno types were hungry and needed lots of nitrogen, more so for the sativa pheno. I harvested when the amber trichomes were around 25% on the indica pheno and 5% on the sativa pheno. They tripled in size during flower. The dried indca buds have a more piney smell and the sativa has a more sweet pineapple pastry smell. I have not smoked any yet because of my job, but I have listed some testers at the end of this report. Overall I would say the grow experience was pleasant and the genetics very hardy, so I give the genetics a 9 out of 10 for growth and hardiness. If not for the slight variation in pheno types I would say a perfect 10. As for the high I cannot rate it until I have tried it. Some other things worth noting are, they were stinky, this is contrary to what I have read about the northern lights strains so maybe its just Nirvanas version. I think they smelled more during veg than flower. I feel that I made a mistake by not feeding the last two weeks and sacrificed a lot of weight in doing so.
Sativa
------
person a - Clear headed, pleasant, didn't feel lazy, no raciness. Overall score is a 7.5
person b - Did not test
Indica
------
person a - Complex, vivid, medicinal. Overall score is a 8.5
person b - Totally mellow, no raciness, giggly, couchlock
Below are some pics I took. The indica pheno I harvested on Christmas eve and I got a little carried away with the decorations.
