Maybe this should be for the 50+ forum... :)

Some of you may (be able to) remember Nils had a career before being in Bruce Springsteen's band.
Especially if you grew up around Bethesda, Md in the late 60's/early 70's; or listened to WHFS.
His Cry Tough* lp was background music for many parties in the 70s-
has a Exile on Main Street meets early Dire Straits vibe.

AARP's done a nice overview of his career/life, and adjusting to changes from his hip-replacement surgery...

btw, any breeders give AARP discounts?

cheers

* a live performance of one of that album's songs...

I thought he was an excellent choice as a replacement for Steve Van Zandt's guitar in the E Street Band. I was a bit surprised when Springsteen picked a geezer like that. But was a wise choice. I first heard Nils Lofgren way back in '68 when he played with Neil Young back in the Crazy Horse days. Excellent, excellent axeman. :thank you:

All the years of back-flip landings is what lead to his need for hip replacement.
Now he's doing tap dance as a replacement activity. :)
(It's in the video)

ps Hope you have a large sum of money to spend while stomping down the avenue.

I was at the Kennedy Center for Grin's farewell concert in 1975. It was shortly after the place opened up and was one of the first non hybrow events held there. It was probably the first time it smelled like pot. They played for a long time and the house pulled the power plug as the band and the entire crowd sang "We all sung together". Very moving. Grin played at my home town Community Center in Falls Church 3 times, where I was a gym rat playing hoops as I came of age. "Moon Tears", White Lies"' Keith Don't Go", a lot of good songs. In 1977, during my Christmas break, I went with my girlfriend, who was from Bethesda, to the Lofgren's cabin in the Ontario wilderness and spent a week playing music, getting high and cooking. We had to go out and get beer from the nearest store. It was miles away and we had to hike down snowmobile trails leading a draft horse dragging a car hood turned upside down as a sled to haul back cases and cases of Brador beer. Long time ago, great memories. Thanks to the Lofgren family.

Long ago in a galaxy far far away I was a recording engineer. One of the producers I worked with was the late David Briggs, Neil Young' long time producer and the man who produced Grin, as I remember.
He did produce Night After Night, a fantastic record that I'm proud to have worked on.
My friends and I also consider ourselves partly responsible for the failure of Where the Buffalo Roam and if you can parse out the connection there you get a gold star.
