NGB MICRO BOX

Here's a tip: Plan out your system completely and check every aspect of it. The ventillation seems to be an issue with this box, but since I have built it already - I will figure some way to make it work. You may want to look into the separate ventillation as minds suggested. I was also thinking that it may be reasonable to not filter the mother room and just have a separate intake/exhaust for it. This would allow the flower room to be somewhat cooler. I may modify my cab to work this way, but I am not sure yet. I'm still waiting on my 175cfm Vortex 4" Fan to see how it does with my current design and I'll go from there and keep you all posted.

Well i have a 4" vortex fan, so if that does the trick for you i'm all set. Im going to be building very soon.

Ventillation

Ventillation

Kreat - Don't start doing any ventillation until the very end ok? Get everything done except the ventillation and by friday I'll let you know what I did and if it works. I think I may try and rig up a cool tube with the 4" Vortex once it arrives. I'm still concerned about the heat with the HPS because with that garbage home depot 6" fan on my carbon filter I was rockin' mid-upper 90's fairenheit in the flower room which is unacceptable.

Right now I am in the process of cleaning up the wire and repainting the whole cabinet so I will be preapared once the fan arrives on friday. I am also building the SWC tub that I just got all the parts for yesterday. As you can see I also changed the location of the filter because it was getting in the way of my reflector.

P.s. I got the ball bearing drawer slides at home depot that support like 100 or 150lbs weight and the easy way to install them is on the floor. The mother board (ha no pun) can easily be supported by just one slide since it's so small. I was thinking to do away with the slides all together at first but once you build it you'll see why you want them. It's going to be a bit of PITA to reach your mothers and the other plants without the slides.

Hello all,

Yeahm Like DP said- plan it out well.

Think about ease of use to.

For light leaks and to maintain vacuum, I used a inlaid door with jams/clete. I also used some molding around the seems helped tremendously.

A picture is is worth a thousand words.

Hello all, this is a crude picture of my cabs future design- I find the current NGB style vent system to be less efficient.

Hey I was just wondering if you got that Vortex going with the cooltube? If you did I definetly want to see pictures as that is what I plan on doing for my grow. I think i'm also going to tyr and fit my scrubber in my unit, do you find it takes up to much bud space? Also do you have anything in the utility closet(where the air exits) to block the light from the HPS if you make it into a cooltube? let me know thanks and good luck!

Time to clean things up - But it's Basically Complete - Finally!

Time to clean things up - But it's Basically Complete - Finally!

Sadly as you can see a lot of grow space was lost due to the vortex fan. It's too large to fit into the utility room so this was the next thing I could come up with. I put a hole in the back of the cab in the utility room and mounted the filter hanging in the utility room. Then my ballast is in there and the 5-Outlet surge to power everything up. Seems like dryer hose is easier to work with that regular ductin by- little FYI there.

I intened to make a cool tube, but as you can see the fan is practically next to the builb when the bulb is at its highest. This fan is a mini-tornado. Very powerful. No need for the cool-tube in this design. Havne't yet tested indoors - i'll post a report once I do - but in the garage with amb. temps @ 84F - the flower room hit 86F at highest. Let's have your $0.02 people.

I looks good just sucks that it takes up as much space as it does, but the filter fits in the utility closet which is good. Maybe what i'll do is add about 4 inches or so in height to the cab giving it just a bit more room with the vortex fan do you think this would be an adequate idea?

The fan in right in the way of where some buds will be, i think it would be okay to do that.

well kreat you can do what i do and stick with low order strains my ak47 x bubbleberry dont smell even during flowing so i dont need a carbon filter but when the time comes i need opne i will just hang mine on the back of the cab cuz with this box one needs all th head room you can get.

Well i'm getting two clones from a friend, one of AK47 and Vortex from Subcool, btoh are a bit stinkers so need to have that pilter, I was thinking of putting the filter behind the unit, but if it fits into the utlity closet i'd love that, i gotta see how it works out, just not sure if I should make it any bigger.

Hey about that vortex filter, its not the heighth so much as it is width. If you added about 5"in. in heighth and another 5"in. in width for the utility room I think you would be gravy. Something that makes my cab unique is that my utility room has a window to the flower chamber for installation access. I just have a couple of brackets holding it in and then I duct tape the cracks to seal it so it's not permanent in case adjustments are necessary in the utility room. However, what NGB didn't explain like stevr pointed out is that the door in the utility room is actually on the top of the cab and opens upward. Anyhow I think the growth loss isn't going to be too drastic, the tub was already a bit smaller than the flowering chamber anyway so I think it'll be alright.

This fan IMO is just right for this cab with a carbon filter. Otherwise I don't think you need this porta-tornado and you could go with a less expensive one.

Well heres a pic of things cleaned up..

Hello all,

Actually, my son in law got in my box to check for light leaks and to test the carbon filter.

No light leaks from the veg chamber and none around the doors. As for the carbon filter- he lit a cigerette- I could smell just a little but not bad.

Since then teh filter is a champ.
