man that looks like the fan i started off with a 85 cmf radio shack fan but i dicth it for the 150 cmf dayton cuz my temps where hitting in at 106 with the lights on.. the dayton has keep it in the high 80s now, well 90.2 has been the highest but mosly it's stays in the mid 80s or so.. right now its 77.8 in the bed room with a box temp of 78.7 with the light off...

Trev - Yeah its that 250cfm casadepot inline duct fan - it's kina weak with the filter resistance, but I figure the muffin exhaust on top of that should do the job.

ok since i am all fucked up now i was thinking about up grading the hole box as you will see in the pic i made... as soon as i get the money i will start buliding a bigger better NGB box.
1 box made out of 3/4 oak plywood with rasied panel door's
2 upgrading to a 250 hps
3 upgrading to a 250 cmf or higher dayton or vortex
4 going with a cool tube
5 carbor shrubber not shure where to put it yet or how big it neds to be
6 going with the sweet pull outs for the bottoms
7 changing vents as shown in the pic made need more and bigger not shure yet
8 changing the flos in the motherroom to clfs not shure of wattegs yet
9 thinking of changing the utitialy cab might make it all the way a cross the top would shove where to put the schrubber ill work on a drawing later tommoro
any other inprovement would be nice just ad what you think would be best .

durban, on a scale of 1-10, 1 being a dull purr, 10 being a roaring beast that the neighbors will throw there shoes at, how does that inline fan of yours rate on the sound scale? i want to buy the 6 inch version but im wondering about my friends asking me if i locked a possom or something in my dresser.

I have that home depot inline duct fan. The 6 inche one. Box says 250cfm and the manufacturer says its onlye 150. It really blows like.. 10. It's whimpy. Brand name "Inductor"? Never again. Your "purr" rating. Sounds like blowing air - it's quiet. Maybe a 2 or a 3. If your going to use a carbon scrubber - do not get the fan from home depot.

Duggy - Be careful - 1" Elbows seem to be idea as they don't leak light. Those 2" PVC elbows I think are going to cause me a little problem but the reading I have found says to make your intake area 2 times larger than your exhaust area. Make sure to use elbows to prevent light leakage. Your right about the PVC takin up the veg chamber - I didn't think of that until later when they were already caulked in there I noticed I ran out of space.. It's ok though because I'm going to rock the mini-bonzai mothers and I will only have 3-4 -- each being a different strain. Anyhow - yes be careful where you put your passive intakes.

Do you guys have the carbon filter in the box along with the fan? I plan on doing this setup with a cool tube w/ a vortex fan for noise situation but don't know where I should put the fan and the filter. If you can show any pictures there i'd appreciate it.

have you tested it?
no light getiing in or out?
hope the light from each of the rooms stays only in its designated area.

Yeah I have tested it. However it was with a weak inductor fan which is going to be replaced with the new vortex on friday when it arrives. It is completely light tight from room to room. So far I think the only adjustment that may be necessary is another elbow or 2 from the mother to the flower room. To test the filter, I put a lit cigarette in a shot glass and closed the doors. The carbon filter didn't completely take all of the smell away, but it the exhaust smelled more like .. a house that you know smokers live in - but it didn't smell like the smoke at all. I figure that should do me right if it can stop a heavy/sticky smell like tobacco. Since then the cab doesnt even smell a little bit like tobacco either. The only light leaks that I have right now are on the doors in the front, but I have 1/4" weather stripping that will be installed once the rest of the cab is complete. Then finally I'll get to move my 9 seedlings into the good cab.

Sorry I forgot to explain - the reason I brought up having a weak fan is because I had major temp issues in my test run. It was hitting low-mid 90's Fairenheit. So a tip to anyone considering - even the fan without the carbon filter on from home depot doesn't move enough air fast enough to cool the box - avoid it and save your 25$. I'll be returning mine. ;)

Hello all,

Yeah the design flaw with this box is that you are drawing your flower chmaber cooling air from the veg chamber which has lights on warming the air even more.

My veg chamber lights raise the ambient by 6*F and another 5*F total-My highest temps are 82*F with both chambers runnning.

The ambient temp outside the box is 68*F.

So, As I mentioned before- it would be better to vent each chamber seperately if possible.

I am waiting for opertunity to revamp my box as it costs so much more utility in the summer to grow.

Is your light cooltubed? or is it just out in the open?

Hello,

No, the light is enclosed and the air from the chamber is drawn over the bulb and out the chamber to be filtered.

But in effect- it functions as a cool tube.
