Newbie - Transplanted Clones

Hello All,

Finally able to to get a proper grow grow going. I have a 5x3 tent running 600 watt HID. Currently it's running half power using the gas lantern routine (12 hours on, 5.5 off, 1 on, 5.5 off). My medium is Coco by botanicare (ReadyGro™ Moisture). I purchased 6 clones in rockwool and transplanted them to bigger pots on day 2.

I think I made two mistakes here. 1, I transplanted too soon. 2, I transplanted them into to big of pots. The plants are about 6-9 inches tall, 3 are in 2 Gal traditional pots, and 3 are in 3 gal smart pots. They seem to be growth stunned and showing a lot of yellow since being transplanted. My question is, should i transplant them into smaller pots or ride it out? i'll provide pictures later today.

Ride it out. They'll grow into the new pots eventually, and you're just going to beat up the root system by transplanting. I'll wait for pics before I go into the yellow leaves.

Hey Weedninja,

Thanks for the quick reply! Here are some pictures i have on hand I took yesterday. They are not the best but something until i can take better ones later today.

It looks like the start of a potassium deficiency. That makes sense because they need potassium to make new roots and they're probably really gobbling it up now.

I'm not a coco grower, but my gut instinct is to tell you to add a bit (1/4 strength) of flowering nutes once or twice to your grow nutes.

Like I said, I'm not a coco grower and you should probably ask in the coco forum about your pH and nute levels before you do anything else.

Thanks, i'll look into that. some more info from my grow journal so far. My current plan unless i get a better recommendation is to leave everything alone for a couple days to let everything even out.

Day 1 - 6-17-2015 @ 8PM
3, Julius Caesar OG
2 Buddha Tahoe OG
1 OG Kush
Clones put into tent @ 7PM. Light cycle is 12 on 5 ½ off 1 on 5 ½ off starting at 9PM. Watered plants @ 10PM with 300 PPM water PH was high 7.0

Day 2 - 6-18-2015
Transplanted clones to bigger pots. Misted all leaves and plants. The 3 Julius Caesar looks to have white powder mold. Sprayed all plants with organocide (16 oz / 4Ml) watered each plant with 4 oz of water PH 6.0 PPM not sure

Day 3 – 6-19-2015
Sprayed all clones with 1% take down

Day 4 – 6-20-2015
Water – half RO half tap water. Left out overnight. PPM after mix was 240. Added 2ML H&G cocca A, 2ML H&G cocca B, 3ML Orca. PH downed it to 6.0. Watered all plants to 20% run off except smart pots those things are tricky to get run off.

Day 5
Nothing

Day 6
Nothing so far

when I ran coco that was common for me to see some issues like yours when transplanting if the coco was not properly flushed and pre charged.
another good reason to consider soil. ride it out. measure ppms in and runoff and post during your next watering.

you can overwater those plants so let them get light a bit before drowning them. tiny plants in a big pot can't take daily watering yet.
the way they look I could see them take 3 days or so to get light and I veg 18 or 24 hours.

I would avoid pesticides during transplant stress if you can. that can't be helping.
240 seems a bit high to start with why not use full RO?
where does your tap water start out in ppms?

good luck!

Hey Chunkypigs,

Makes sense. Yah, I'm going to hold off on pesticides and organocidefor a couple weeks till they start looking better.

My tap water is 550 PPM! and PH around 8. I'm running half and half because of the calcium and magenisum in the tap water? plus it saves me money on RO water until i get one installed. From what i understand If i go full RO i'll need to get some cal-mag which isn't a problem. I'm liking the idea of going full RO so i can control exactly what's in the water.

yikes your water sucks! probably a way to work around that but I would just filter it.
perhaps a good pre filter could get you to a workable # without the full RO set up.

lol, yup. i'm looking into getting a RO setup under my sink, they are couple hundred bucks on Amazon.

Some close up pics. they look a little better today but still pretty beat up. I've already cut off a bunch of leaves that were in really bad shape, was hoping i could save the rest.

Step 1: Never water coco at 7pH again and feed with every watering.
Step 2: Read stickies in coco subforum.
Step 3: ?
Step 4: Doobies.

Don't remove unsightly leaves until they're growing strong, you're just slowing down recovery (if they're still partially green).

Hey Mikell,

Funny, a doobie is why i watered with high PH water. forgot to PH before watering. I've read so much on cooco that everything is starting to counter dict each other. Everyone has their own way and recommendation of doing things. Gotta find my own groove. Yah, I won't remove anymore leaves until they start getting healthier. Growing and being impatient is a recipe for disaster gotta slow my roll.

Very true.

Impatience? I haven't a clue what you're talking about... ;)

Bonecarver, 100grOz (both great for practical information), Snowcrash and The Cook (practical, but with heads full of that science stuff) are the more reliable sources of information in the coir subforum. There are also a number of smart whips about, chunky et al, with a good amount of experience.

Excellent, thanks. One thing that i should have mentioned from the start that has bugged me is how the clones were rooted. They were in small container with little square rockwool cubes on the bottom. on top of that was a bigger cube. So the roots grew into all the small rock wool cubes. when you pulled the plant from the pot it looked like it had a bunch of dingleberries lol.

When i transplanted i did not cut all of these off. so there is a clump of these little rockwool cubes under the bigger rockwool cube. I'm thinking that may cause some issues with the roots? I won't be buying any more clones from this place, that's for sure.
