Newbie grower needing to turn lights off for 30 min

Hey guys I'm in a bit of a bind and I'm hoping someone more knowledgable might be able to help me out. I am currently in week 2 of flowering my beautiful babies (4 Querkle/4 Sour Diesel) and my landlord is bringing people by the place to try to sell it (my roommate and I are moving out in late August). I am running a 600w hps in the closet in my roommate's room. They are going to be coming by at 4PM today and I plan on shutting it all down for the roughly 30 minutes they will be around (I'm guessing). My concern is that I will cause damage/extra stress on the plants by allowing them to go dark for 30 minutes in the middle of their light cycle. The light turns on at noon and off at midnight at this point.

I do have 4 of the stick on LED lights that people can use for under cabinets, etc. Will those help in any way to keep the plant from stressing too much, should I just try and get everything started back up as soon as possible or are there any other things I haven't thought of yet?

The plants will be fine, a one time event of half an hour won't cause any problems.

The bigger question is what makes you think they aren't going to open the closet? Hope you are legal, good luck.

You should be fine, as far as the plants are concerned. Turning it off during the light cycle is nowhere near as bad as turning it on during the dark cycle.

like stink.whistler said, it's a non-problem.

he also raised a good point about the landlord
wanting to show off his really cool closets to
the prospective buyer.

anyway, i'm jumping in to suggest that you might
want to run your lights on at night when electricity
is cheaper and the temps are usually cooler.

myself, i run my SOG from 6pm to 6am.
just a thought.

peace, bozo

Thanks guys, I do have my Doctor's rec. and I'm in California so the grow is legal. I have a key lock on the door and I'm just going to tell them that my roommate has the key (he wont be around while the place is being shown off). It'll buy me a little time to figure out what I can do with 8 2 foot plants that are juuuuuuust starting to bud. Has anyone had any luck with being legal and not hiding their closet grows? I was tempted to just say screw it and show the closet either way, but my landlord doesn't know about it and I move out after this cycle.

no man, don't say anything, your plan regarding the
locked closet is a good one that he won't be able to
argue about.

lol, i'd actually planned to advise something similar.

btw, on the off chance your landlord has a key to all
doors, you might want to go buy yourself a new one.
it'd cost about $10.00 - $15.00 to buy a new
doorknob and it's easy as crap to change them.

that way, there is absolutely NO way he could have a
key, and like you said, your roomie has the key.

i'd also suggest that you continue to be quiet about
growing despite being legal, you don't want to grow
lazy about security as there are still plenty of rippers
out there who'd like nothing better than to score your buds.

better safe than sorry.

@Bozo: Yeah I did just that. I freaked out because the old nob on there is really old and looked like it wouldnt come off at first. Got the nob set up and was prepped to stuff everything (watering can, spray bottle, bongs, etc.) into the room, rushed home from school to make sure I would have time and just got a phone call from the landlord saying the people canceled so no one is coming by today. This has got me feeling good now, but my Querkles just started budding and the Sour Diesel is looking like its about ready to bud too.

Undoubtedly there will be more people coming through the place so it looks like I'm going to prep the closet to be able to shut down quickly, I just don't know how I can hide the smell. My buddy (who has a stake in the harvest because he helped invest) and I are considering building a make-shift plywood shed in the back and covering it with a tarp or something as a place to store the plants if need be. If the shed is on the back porch holding 8 flowering plants how much smell should I expect to be coming off the plants?

I really appreciate the help guys, I thank you, and the babies do too!:thank you::thank you::thank you:

if you're not growing in some kind of sealed environment,
there really isn't any way to 'remove' the odors.

what you CAN do is to use a 2 pronged approach.

1) you can try and hide the smell (which shouldn't be too
strong yet anyway) with odiferous plants like flowers
and herbs, that way your special 'herb' gets lost in the
mix.
2) you can also get an ozone generator which isn't something
i'd recommend using long term but in your situation it might
be something to consider.

the way they work is they generate ozone molecules which
attach to the smelly molecules and then they fall to the
ground, kinda messy but no longer smelly.

They are sealed in the closet for now, the make-shift shed would be a temporary storage spot to hide the plants while we show the apartment. They would basically be sitting on my back porch covered up.

Why not just leave your carbon scrubber & fan on while turning the lights off.

And no, going dark during the light cycle doesn't bother them at all, they don't even notice. Hell, you could do it everyday for and they wouldn't care. LEDs have to be of very specific wavelengths to be detected by the plant, so they won't help you here.

But they're great for those times you need to get into the grow room during lights out

They should be OK :D

A short period of light deprivation is no different to a big black cloud passing over an outdoor garden or a day of rain/thunder under glass.

Peace

Thanks for the help everyone, I've got another potential renter coming through the apartment tomorrow and now I'm prepped to turn the light off for them and lock them up temporarily.
