NewB watering question

I just watered my plant for the first time since it was planted, it was looking nice and the soil was just dry i stuck my finger down on the side and it was pretty dry, so i watered it today after about 10 days, watered the soil until the water drained through the bottom and afterwards the leaves began to point down. Is this normal? or did i give it too much water?

thanks guys.

It will look much better the next day. It's pretty normal, although you should learn to water by checking the weight of the containers, in time you will know exactly the amount of water to add. Don't sweat it though, it's normal, as long as the excess water is drained and you don't water too often you will be fine.

Yep... Little baby seedlings are easy to over water too, their fragile roots and small plants can't uptake water very quickly. I tend to use a turkey baster to water em until I can see roots around the outsides of the cups, and just dampen the soil.

If you use clear plastic cups for starts and clones, you can see the root progress. Just be sure to also use dark cups to set the clear cups inside to protect the roots from light.

After they have established good roots you can (and should) completely soak the pots so you get lots of run-off. It helps keep the root zone and soil balanced and rinses out any old remaining salts that could cause problems later.

But lil plants aren't usually in small pots long enough to worry about build up before they will be replanted anyway.

thanks guys, about an hour after i posted this they sprung up quite nicely and all is well now at least until i gotta worry about nuteing them.
