New toys in the garage

well for Xmas I bought my son a KTM SX125 motox as he is really into his bikes
I'd given up on moto x about 4 years ago as I thought I was too old
and every time I went out on my 250 KTM I was sore for a week after
but after having a few shots on the 125 I remembered how much fun it was
and I wasn't as sore as I used to be after riding I thought yeah this is fun

So last week I did a deal with a friend and ended up with a 520 KTM
at the moment its in full road legal super motad mode but I have all the off road stuff as well
and about 30 mins in that garage and it will be back to full off road ready

only problem is my son is now in love with the 520 and he wants it
I gave him a few runs up and down the street on it and I must say at 14 y.o. he handled it very well
considering he's never been on anything near as powerful as this beast
the pic of the 520 is my sons friend trying to sit on it, as he wanted a go as well
he is also 14 and rides his suzuki RM125 like a complete madman

no blade yet, but still on the cards once I persuade the wife to let me buy it
not a big Duke fan except for there motad range, I prefer in line 4's over the low down grunt of the V's
and If I get the Blade I need a bigger garage as thers 6 bikes in there already, 2 x 110 Pit bikes, 1 mini moto, 2 KTM,s and an
old Kwak Z400 that was converted into a hard tail chop thats a restoration project when I get time

i was rolling around on a 600cc 4 stroke when i was 15, But the 500cc 2 stroke is to strong for a kid that age,,,,All my friends stepped up from 80-125-250- Most never even tried to jump on a 500 cc 2 stroke as its a fucking beast, 250 have fucked up alot of friends,,,,,,BUt if that ktm is a 4 stroke Thumper engine...... a 500 thumper is kinda like a 250 2 stroke.......i rode a 600 at 15 .....but i was a big 15-16 year old............250 2 strokes would beat me at the jump but not in the long haul.

it is a 520 4 stroke but don't let that fool you
I had a KX 500 many years ago and the 520 is way more powerful
both my sons were on 50cc husky's before they were on peddle bikes and were on 80's when they were about 7
125 & 250's by the time they were 12 - 13

I got into trouble with the cops last week because the 14 y.o. was on some waste ground
next to my house, you have to cross a busy expressway to get to it and its just grass and bushes
anyway traffic cops went by on the expressway and seen him riding and stopped

they asked his name etc and if the bike was "road Legal" knowing fine well its not
and told him he could get done for riding on "Public land" and get points on his license etc
when he said "What License" I'm only 14 and too young to have one, they asked how big his bike was
he replied 125cc they said isn't that way to big for you he said "no its just right, but I regularly drive 250's and even 520's"

anyway they told him to push the bike home and they would be there soon
next thing I know I'm having a smoke when my son comes in saying the cops are on there way
I jumped up put the joint out and ran to head them off at my back gate
when they turned up they were pretty much Ok as they seen he had all the gear on (boots, helmet, body armour and pads etc)
but couldn't believe he was allowed to ride such big bikes at his age (the 520 was in the garden)

Oh his 125 is fully race tuned with comp piston, barrel and exaust etc so its pretty brutal off the mark
and can keep up with most 250 four strokers that he races up at our local track
he's hoping to race later this year when he turns 15 and is allowed to enter the 125 catagory

I keep forgeting that right about the time me and my friends stopped riding they were just letting 4 strokes a yamaha yzmf or something compete with the 2 strokes in supercross and that was a long while back..........So they most have really by now improved the 4 strokes............Mine was a oldie i got for cheap. yamaha XT 600 like fucking 80z LOl headlight and speedometer.....1 down 4 up and gave hell to all my friends on 2 strokes trying to keep up with me in the mountains with there like 96 hondas CR and yamahaz YZand KXz. can hear there 2 strokes screaming like the piston wants to pop out the head LOL

Plus i digged i could just go to the gas station and fill up no mixing my gas... Bike was a tank heavy ass shit with dual carbs, and got owned on the track by the lighter bikes, finally seized it after a few years, made me wanna cry, i loved thumpers

Ouch

Ouch

well the 520 managed to throw me off at the weekend
surprised it took so long for it to happen, this thing is not for the faint hearted

got a bit banged up around my head & shoulder but I'll live
anyway got some footage of my kids
having some fun on a 125 and the 520 even though my youngest is still only 14
he's taking to the 520 like a duck to water

Your son is 14 and he's got a 125cc?
My dad wouldn't have bought me anything with an engine.
I'm 20 and ride a 50cc motorcross moped.
125cc seems a lot for a 14 year old. He's still a kid trying to impress his buddies and all.

LOL my 14 year old spends more time on my 520 than he does on his 125
he was driving 50cc's at 4, Kawasaki KX 60's by the age of 7 and 110cc pit bikes by the time he was 9

pic 1 is hin on his Husky 50cc next is him on the KX 60 then his KTM 125 and finally on my 520

this is a link to him and his friend (also 14 on his Suzuki RM 125) out playing

the 50 CC was Automatic but after that all there bikes had gears
they sort of skipped the peddle bike stage and went right onto motorbikes

Did he ever crash?

if you ride bikes esp in competition you will come off, esp Motocross
we have all come off at some time and will do again but thats life on bikes
but we all wear body armour, boots and helmets etc to make it as safe as possible

Nice toy there OP. BUT

#1 Please replace the clutch lever. The broken know leaves a real nasty cutter on the end. If needed I can send the pic of the hole in my arm when I to thought oh it's ok. lol

#2 adjust that chain and for god's sake puts some lube on it lol white lithium grease works best but if it comes off you and I know you could break the case and that thing is loose.

#3 the 2 fingers on the clutch give him away. he's a rider. lol

Have A Great Day

Clutch leaver replaced a few days after pic was taken, chain was replaced and lubed following week
I'd litterally just picked it up from the guy I bought it from that morning
now he wants to sell it to buy a 250F, after riding the 520 the 125 is too tame for him now
yeah I teach them all to use 2 fingers on the clutch, better for control of the bars
