NEW ROOM SETUP

M

Mr.Howie

What up all.. Ive gots a little space to work in and wanted to get some feed back on how to set up. I have a 6.5x12x7 ft tall room. I figure 6.5x5 will be flower and the rest for moms/clones... I'm def going hydro and was either going to use ebb and flow tables or RDWC. Probably going to use 2 1000w hps for flowering too. Think i will need two fans one for lights and one for the scrubber. Also have a small AC unit and Dehumidifier to use. I mainly would like feed back on what system i should grow with, light spacing for my room (also what size lights) and just general info on keeping temps in good order.

Your area to work with:

Flowering area of 6.5' x 5' = 32.5 square feet

Total cubic feet of flowering room = 227.5 cubic feet

Wpsf (using 2x 1k HPS) = 61.5 wpsf

Lpsf (using 2x 1k HPS) = 8615 LPSF

To cool 2x 1k HPS I'd use 1x 6" 300-440cfm inline centrifugal.

For scrubbing via carbon filter and ventilating/exhuasting the room I'de go the route of a 6" or 8" inline centrifugal, but if you go bigger then what you need you can run the fan at 1/4-1/2 speed/power thus making the fan both quieter and more efficient.

Use insulated ducting for all duct work and if you can use insulated ducting that has a larger diameter then the fan or cool tubes/air-cooled hoods, this will cut down on static pressure/duct losses and will also be good when trying to keep things as quiet as possible.

I see you will be using an A/C unit....I've never done that...yet.I don't know how many times you would want your room to be ventilated if using an A/C so a smaller fan and carbon filter may suffice but don't take moy word for that one.

For lighting I would probably go the route of 3x 600w HPS as this would provide a much better light spread IMO and possibly easier to cool. It's a drop in watts per square foot (from 61.5 wpsf to 56.25 wpsf) and a slight drop in lumens (from 8615 lpsf to 8437 lpsf) but I think that a more even light spread due to three light sources rather than two combined with 200w less power used compensates for the slight wpsf and lpsf losses.

^^^ sounds like a solid plan to me.

1000watt lights are in a generic way meant for a 4x4 area per light so your flower area is less then that when you consider two 1000watt lights. 600's are used so much because they have great power and penetration and so much more flexibility with light foot print and cooling.

Two 600HPS and one 600 MH and you would have a good set up. I'm just a big fan of mixed spectrums ;)

Great thank you both for the organized answers. I already have one 1000hps that I will use at least for now just trying to decide on getting two more 600's or another 1000. A

Another question.....The intake for the room is 8" passive and is drawing air into the veg room. There is a wall between the veg and flower room that also has a 10" hole for the flower room intake. The scrub/exhaust is in the flower room and the air exists from there. I'm thinking once I have the exhaust hooked up to the lights I won't need the A/C anymore (using it now only because I am waiting on fan to arrive). The question I have is.... I have a 8 light T5 in the veg room, and the lights in the flower room. Once I have a fan hooked up to the lights in the flower room will the temps be ok without A/C? I would rather not be using the A/C as it's expensive and is pulling stinky air out... I would rather all the stink air exhaust through the scrub. Any thoughts on my intake? Is there a better way to have it set up?

anyone else want to chim in? Also how about ebb/flow or RDWC. Are there any good treads that debate this? Is there one that will work better for my space?

I tried hydro once...and failed miserably. This was about 14/15 years ago.I had bought an American Agrotech mini ebb and flow.Did'nt know anything about pH,TDS,EC etc. back then and I'm sure that is why I failed miserably.....one day I will try it again though, one day.

As in regards to Ebb n Flow vs. DWC/RDWC,I would probably choose RDWC just because of the amount of space for rapid and healthy root growth and IMO and IME the bigger and healthier the root system the bigger and healthier the buds will be.
