New Planet

D

daisy jane

I'm sorry if this has already been posted, but I haven't been around a computer in the past few days. Anyway, here yall go. A new planet discovered that is similar to Earth, meaning it has water and can possibly support life. What is everyone else's opinion on this. How cool would it be if we could travel to another planet like Earth. Oh, sorry Bob I can't come over, I am going to Planet Gliese for awhile :D Once again, sorry if this has already been posted.

that's pretty interesting. i think theres like 90 planets that have been discovered outside our solar system but this one seems to be a good bet for life, even microorganisms would be a great find.

personally, i dont think water is necessary for extra-terrestrial life. it just so happened that life evolved around water in this planet, but whats stopping life from popping up across the universe in a different matter.

nice find.

Depends if you want to talk to it or watch it form in a petri dish thru a microscope. Imo I dont picture a non-water based life form being able to develope an extensive elaborate method of communication.

What would it consume while evolving?

Who knows??? For all we know, water is actually very inefficient and of poor quality to...borkinpllog. Or other shit we have not discovered. Just because everything needs water, sunlight and oxygen and all that shit on Earth, does not mean it is the same everywhere else. But probably....who the hell knows.
I can not wait until we can go to other planets like going to another continent. Hell, I wish I could just hop in my briefcase (Jetson's anyone?) and fly to any planet I wanted.
We do not spend at all enough money on the space program. Yeah yeah, I know it is expensive, but damn we need to get out there more. It is like being on an island and saying "Meh, there ain't nothing out in the water. Let's stay here."
But no, we have to fight "drugs" and "terrorism".......

Daisy Jane, the good thing is that the planet is only 20.5 light years away. At the current speed of our spacecraft, we could be there in about 500,000 years. Save your vacation time wisely!

What pops said. Because of the human lifespan, speed you are traveling at is important in space. :) Sitting on a spacecraft build with the tehnology that is avalible at the moment and flying around our solar system is like playing with a small model of boat in the sink, while there is an ocean out there. Everybody knows that some of the starts we are looking (not always seeing) at sky dont even exist no more. It takes light (that is traveling with the speed of light - no shit) thousants of years to reach Earth ... and at the moment, lightspeed for human = impossible. We are NO NEAR that kind of speeds in space.

Dont get me wrong... I want to leave too.

You, me, Wolf and so many others would be on that ship, man. I'd hack off both knockers myself if it ment getting the fuck off this rock & exploring other places.
