New house within 1,000 yards of a school :(

Markets down, and I am basically buying my dream house, but its within 1,000 yards of an elementary. I was planning on growing in my garage with 5KW, I live in California and was worried about Infrared from helicopters seeing my grow..Should I be?

Its cali, you can grow in your home as long as you are a patient, even within 1000 ft of a school as long as it is in a residential zone. No opening up shop though...

This is the truth and the previous poster was wrong! Federal rules take precedent to STate laws. Here in Santa Cruz just THIS week a local 215 patient was taken down and arrested, now he was stealing power which is a HUGE no-no but the FED's came in NOT the local Sherrif's, who for the most part have more important things to do and are basically cool.

Stay by the rules DO NOT steal power, hopefully you'll be alright but just because we have 215 & 420 legistlation does NOT make us bullet proof and actually (as mentioned and discussed in another thread) the Obama administration is taking a tougher stance and allowing the Federal Government to move against MMJ states and individual's! We are seeing a LOT more of that locally and in N. Cali.

Good luck, if you recently were approved to buy a house you obviously have something going on so don;t loose it all for a stupid mistake.

I have grown close to a school with outdoor plants for the last two years. No problems so far, knock on wood. Also, if you look close you should see signs that mark the 1000 ft mark. I am just outside of these signs. Good luck.

This one actually really BUGS me because what exactly do they think we are going to do sell our wears to the kids LOL LOL . They have a club here that opened up in the slimmy part of town years ago and no one said shit as there was nothing going on down there. A few years after it opened they decided to open a daycare/school accross the street and there has been no problem since it has happened. As a matter of fact both clubs are accross from schools so WTF! What do they think ppl with cannabis will do jump on the kids? Please they never even look at the kids that more the drunks on the streets. I think the cops need to put things into prespective once and for all and stop blaming cannabis for all lifes problems thats mvho peace out Headband707

1000ft, isn't very far at all! It's like a block and a half....
it is however, 1000f from the "school zone", so if you see a yellow "school zone" sign, start measuring from there.


I had 8 foot tall outdoor beasts in my backyard within sight of the Humboldt County Municipal building..... If someone on upper floors had binoculars, then coulda easily seen me Trainwreckin' the neighborhood


Also, I knew some ppl that got raided a block from Eureka High School.... They got rolled on by the HumCo Drug taskforce.... Not a peep about the school zone thing.... alas, there were no federal agents with them, it was allll handled locally from the tales I heard.

Seriously take a look at a southern cali suburb from google maps. there is pretty much a school within a thousand yards of everywhere. They include religious schools too, and every fucking church has a Sunday school.

THERE IS NO CITY OR SUBURB YOU CAN LIVE IN WHERE YOU ARE FARTHER THAN A THOUSAND FEET AWAY FROM A SCHOOL OR CHURCH.

It is also against the law to have a firearm within 1000 feet of a school. However, if you live within 1000 feet of a school and own firearms, you are o.k. as long as you don't commit any crimes with them in the 1000 foot area. It is just a sentencing enhancement for crimes committed. I wouldn't be concerned with an in-home personal grow near a school in California. I know of one dispensary that is across the street from an elementary school and has not ever been hassled.

if you have a shop already setup and someone opens a daycare they should be the ones that need to move. Is daycare a school zone??
