New grower, 600w or 1200w? And how many for best yield?

Hi guys, bit of a lurker, first time posting. :tiphat:

We built a room, it's not quite finished yet but basically ready to go. The dimensions are 1450mm wide, 1900mm long and 2250mm high. We have 1x 600w HPS in there but we can fit another 600w in there which we are considering, would this be advised given the dimensions? Also, how many plants do you think we should put in there to get the most of the space and get the best yield possible? We're using Greenhouse Seeds Super Lemon Haze and White Widow seeds and growing them in soil.

Thanks in advance :) I'll try to keep this thread updated with the grow progress & pics too :)

If you want to use all of the space (29sqft), definitely add the other 600W. That will give you just a nadge over 40 Watts per sqft, which is about the minimum for good dense bud growth under HPS lighting.

Make sure you have adquate ventilation/cooling. 1200W of HPS goodness generates some serious heat.

As you're growing from seed, I'd say plant 10 of each and whittle it down to 8-10 females. Veg for about 5-6 weeks and do a little of the funky LSTing. If, by some jolly bad luck, you end up with less than 10 females, just veg a little longer and keep training. Watch out for the stretch when flowering!

Updates :)

Updates :)

Cheers mate. :) Took your advice and got another 600W.

On March 21st we planted 2x Super Lemon Haze and 2x White Widow - All Green House seeds.

We're growing them as mothers that we're gonna keep around and take clones off and add more pots. Currently they're sitting under 600W but going to crank that up to 1200W this weekend.

Here they are at the moment, the left two are the Super Lemon haze and the right two are the White Widow

Nice bong!

I wouldn't worry about plugging in the extra 600W yet - you'll just be wasting electricity. Wait until the plants have got big enough to fill more than 1/3 to 1/2 of your floor space. It'll only take a few weeks :)

How many days old are those from the time they poped. Nice plants.

The plants are now 20 days old :) Cheers!

I'll find out what soil mixture is called as well since I haven't mentioned it, it's an organic mix with perlite and all the nutrients required for the whole grow cycle.

A little bit overdue for an update I think :p
Temps were getting pretty high so we got an extractor fan and intake fan in the room, they're down lower but could go a tad lower.

On with the pics :)

22nd April:

Had the hands on a real cam for once, so snapped some better pics :)

Here's the 4 of them, SLH up front, WW down back

Just the SLH

The SLH on the right seems to have a few spots on it, any ideas on the cause? Maybe the heat? Seems to be about 24-28 degrees atm.

Here's the WW's, the sick one is the one on the left, seems to be doing better

Me again :tiphat:

We built a propagation room today! Now we have somewhere for the mothers and clones, makes life easy that's for sure.

The plants are looking healthy! We made the switch to 12/12 today so we can get these outta here and really fill the room up properly :)

I managed to snag a camera today, so here's a little tour... (click the images for bigger ones)

Here is the entrance to the new horticulture area! :artist:

It was previously only the room on the left with nothing on the right or left side. Well the left is boarded up now to make a little entrance way and for shelf space and the right has been framed and boarded to create a small room.

Looking into the room, you can see our new fan and carbon canister all rigged up.

You may have noticed the plants are looking a bit bigger these days! They've come out real well! Left is SLH and right is WW, the plant in the background is WW.

The top left corner is the other SLH with the two WW's on the right.

And here's a bit of all of 'em :)

The new propagation room

This room turned out fantastically, it has a lot more height than it looks from the outside as you can see from the below photo.

Cloning underway!

So we're on track, everything has been going really well and we can't wait for the first harvest :)

Looks good...nice clean set up! Sorry if I missed it somewhere but did u determine sex of the plants yet?? Also not sure if u have or not but just for xtra measures u should have your prefilter on the scrubbers...keep the unwanted dust/dirt etc out of it :) good vibez.
