New fan

It is time for a new fan finally. Not that my old one has given up on me or anything, but she has been running constantly more less for 4 years now. Can't believe I have got that much use from her with no problems, especially to be a cheapo made in China lol.

The reason I want to upgrade is because I want a fan that runs quieter and i'm adding another tent to my setup, so i'll need a new one anyway.

The current fan is a 6 inch 440 cfm, does not have speed controller so she is constantly pulling maximum output.

I will be running a 1k watt hps in one 4x4 tent and a 600 watt hps in the other 4x4. I have been looking into the can fan max 6 inch fans and even the can max pro 8 inch fans and getting a flange so it could fit onto the 6 inch ducting I will be using.

I also thought that maybe I should look into larger fans with adapters to output on 6 inch duct because I have read that a larger fan will be much quieter than a smaller one.

What would you do? What do you recommend?

Actually after sitting here thinking about it for a minute, I am beginning to wonder if maybe I should change my ventilation setup.

I have currently been using a set up like this --> (6 inch carbon filter> 440 cfm fan > 6 inch blockbuster air cooled hood with 1000 watt hps> then to the outside exhaust.

When I originally chose this method I was thinking that it would save room from having two ducts running through the tent and two fans.

Would I be better off venting the air in the tent through the filter separately from cooling the light? Like having one fan for cooling and scrubbing the room and the other only for the heat extraction of the light?

What are the pros and cons of these two different setups?

I would recomend from S&P TD 1000 ultrasilent fans,

not cheapest ones on market but really best ones if you are anoyed
by lot of sound that produce cheaper models.

TD 1000 produce just 21-22 decibels in full power and with Sonodec
ducting there is almost nothing to hear.

Wish you best what ever you choose,TD 1000 is mine pick and best
invented money in fans till this day..

Hyper Fan Stealth, seriously wish i would have got one forever ago. i could fall asleep with it on thats how quiet just as a scrubber with no ducting. a cpu fan makes more noise than this thing for me. always go bigger an slow it down if need be.

Some of the new fans have built in speed controllers which are very nice. If not I'd go with a Vortex (10 year warranty) and and a $20 speed controller.

My can fans have run forever, but they are noticeably louder after a year or two.... I know the 10" and 14" are the quiet ones, and the 12" is loud as shit but not sure about smaller ones. I think they're rated though on the box for noise too. Also in my experience going from big fan to small ducting isn't quieter than smaller fan unless your using a speed control to slow it down to same flow as smaller fan.

Vortex has a new line that looks identical to the S&P TDS series mixed flow fans of which I have run both 6" & 8" and can recommend. I have no idea if the Vortex line is the same under the hood. Mufflers at the end make a noticeable difference.

I agree with Outcold on the duct mufflers as they are very effective. If you combine those with insulated ducting there is not much ventilation noise at all.

I also say go with the hyper fan stealth model. There quiet and use about half the wattage of all the other fans on the market so they pay for themselves in saved electricity after a year or so, they also come with a built in speed controller.

using a fan independently to cool the hood is a good idea if you're wanting to make use of that heat to heat your home.
