new ec meter

Hi Guys
I just bought an ec-meter dist 4 from hanna instruments. When i dip it in the rez it reads 0,08, which i find very low? The rez is a 1/2 strength fert so i thought it should be higher than this. It's my first meter. When i dip it in calibration fluid it also reads 0,08-0,09. I don't really know what number i'm trying to reach here. Can somebody please help me with this?

Hey Sprout. Honestly, don't u think i would try that before going here;))
The calibration fluid says ms/cm 1413, and there's a scheme with the ms/cm for different temperetures. The ecmeter is supposed to take regard to the different temps.
I was thinking that the 1413 maybe would be the same as the meter reading; 0,14(there's no last digits on the meter) but when i calibrate to 0,14 my water is about 0,12 which i just think is waaay less than what i should be with a half strength fert in tap water???

I just read some more on another site. The 1413 calibration fluid is a weird m and the S/cm. So i figure this is a smaller measuring. So does this mean that my calibration should go to 1,41 instead of 0,14? or how does this work?

You probably mean µs/ cm²..
The scale is : 1 EC = 1 ms/ cm² = 1 000 µs/ cm² = 640 PPM

I hope that will help you...

EC =electrical conductivity
PPM Parts per million

1413 is the calibration solution for your meter. The meter has instructions for calibration, or you can view them online at the same link below. Dip the meter into the solution, adjust the reading until it shows 1.413 (I just set mine for 1.41 or 1.40). I have a Hanna HI9813

A good site to use for study is:

At first, you will be WOWed by the info, but after a while it all starts to make sense.
Not trying to be flip, but one thing you must do is read, read, and more reading. And, then, maybe, some understanding will start to begin. H20 is a science, IMO, that takes some getting used to and familiar w/. Unlike soil, super forgiving and easy for noobie or pro. I'm discovering that H20 is a large learning curve. Alot of specifics must always be met for things to go just right. Now, I understand when they mention getting their grows "dialed in".
It's a science that takes some getting used too. And no 2 are alike.
Didn't mean to ramble on, but I hope this helps.

Success w/ya grow!!!

Hi Guys. Tx for all of your replies. I called Hanna, and somebody told me that some of them get stuck, so i washed it (dipping up and down) for half an hour, and it seems like i got it to work. At first, the higest number i could get it to was ,6, when the calib. screw started clicking and number didn't get higher. Bit of a problem when calib. solution is 1413, so 1,4 on my ec. So now it seems to work much better. I found out that my rez was only 0,4, so maybe that's why my widows are yellowing and slow. I put the ec to 1,0 now, and hope they'll be looking better allready tomorrow maybe. Tx for the great link.
