New Cabinet Design question.

Guest

I am going to be building a cabinet for my garage. It is going to be 3 feet deep, 6 feet wide, and 4 or 5 feet high, cant decide on the height yet. It will have a 5000 btu a/c and proper ventilation. But, my question is....Can I put two 1000`s in cool tubes in there or will it be too hot? I have read that the cool tubes are cool to the touch but I am still concerned about two 1000`s in that small of space. The plants will be grown scrog method. Any input is apreciated..Thanks

It might be a bit of overkill. 3' x 6' = 18 sq ft. 2000 watts/18 = 111 watts/sq ft.

I doubt the plants will be able to use it; you find diminishing returns on light at over about 90 watts/sq ft, and that's if you are running CO2 and maximizing nutrients, etc. In a normal garden, 60 watts/sq ft would be about right. Two 600's would give you 67 watts/sq ft; about right.

hmmm....not trying to argue or anything but I have read in a lot of places of some people doing 100 watt/sf grows and having crazy yields and what not. It will also have sufficient CO2.

This is a 4x8 veg cab...1000w on a mover...enclosed in a box with two paynes on glass for the bottom and ducked..300 cfm ..the place of grow is 4 deep 8 wide and 4 tall..i set my a/c to 77 in the room where the cab is in and it stays 80 in the cab....

you need more room for that amount of light...your plants will grow but it is overkill for you could grow a hell of alot more ...trust me i did the same thing with a small cab and a 1000w.....

4x4 is the footprint of light a 1000w will give you...

so 2 1000w cooltubes in a 4x8x6 will due you some serious growing!!

one thing i will sugest is that you move the ac to somewhere that is not blowing in the box...

i killed my last grow cause i had a 5000btu a/c in a cab...the cold air stunts them and maked the leaves turn brown and curl....

cooltubes are great by the way...

Hey thanks for the input issack.. I wish I could build a cab that big but space limitations wont let me. What if i were to do 3 600`s?? Or is that still overkill? I didnt plan on putting the ac so it would blow right on the plants I was going to mount it a couple feet above the plants. My exhaust to my carbon filter is near the bottom of the cab so it will circulate the air a little more, or I hope it will. I like your set up a lot...Peace

3 foot deep, 6 feet wide, 5 feet tall...

you know when an a/c kicks on...it stays on for awhile...it just does not kick off like you want it to in a cab that size...

the cab that i had the a/c in that rocked my crop was 2 1/2 foot deep, 8 feet wide and 4 feet high...so almost the same cubic feet...

It was a 5000btu .....it filles up the cab with cold ass air sooooo damn fast it's unreal....so ur plants are sitting there for like 5 minutes while the compresor is bloeing out 50 degree air...

trust me you'r plants will stunt and it will take forever to get a yeild...and they will wilt and brown....

a/c the whole garage and make the cab have lots of ventelation ...with small fans blowing the cool garage air....

2 600 w light cooltubes is fine..(3 is still overkill.).alot of light will reflect and you will have nice yeilds...wrap the whole cab with reflective....i like lightning 97.
keep temps at 80 to 82
with the a/c in the garage depending on where you live you humidity should be in the 65 70 with plants in the cab....

I'm very stoned right now and i am rambleing....hope i made sinse...lol..

I think a 400 watt light is just right for a 3x3 foot area, or roughly 44 watts per sq ft. I did a 3x3 scrog with 1000 watts and it was too much. So for your 3x6 area, I'd recommend two 400 watters.
