New AT&T Remote Monitoring with Cingular Cell Phones

Hi all,

Thought some people would like to hear about this new service offered by AT&T

Remote Monitoring

View Cameras & Control Lights / Appliances from a Remote PC or a Cingular Cell Phone!!!

Basically a home security system without a monitoring service (it is monitored by you, not a security company)

You can get door/window sensors, motion detectors, cameras, temperature sensors, and more.

The system runs through your home PC on a broadband internet connection, and alerts you via text message.

Very cheap, only $99 for the starter kit then $9.95 a month for the service.
The only addons that are expensive are the cameras.

$100 dollars for a starter kit, and then $10 additional per month fee... That's fucking exspensive dude.

I see it like this... That's $220 I could put into my next grow...

you obviously don't know how much security systems and network ip camera systems cost

$220 isnt much for peace of mind, knowing nobody is at your house.

but we all have our own oppinions

and anyways, $220 isnt a lot of money... lol - that's the cost of 1 light.... if you have a big enough grow that this would be an option for you, $220 isn't much... at all. if you have a closet grow, obviously this wouldnt be practical.

It looks pretty cool. The water sensor can detect the presence or absence of water. Sounds like it would tell you when to remotely water ;)

Yes and you can also download free software to monitor your home.

Plus the actual chances of something happening? You see where I'm going.

And I guess we have to agree to disagree on the value of a dollar, Mr. Money Bags :)

Oh! And AT&T sucks. I have cingular and I hate them. Fewest dropped calls my ass.

EDIT

I also I would no way in hell want to turn things on/off in my home through a phone company either. The patriot act is a bitch. And unless you live under a rock and haven't heard it's being abused worse then a 3 legged dog pulling a sleigh.

Other then that it's a cool service

Nah, it's for water leaks around the home - that'd be nice though.

You can not download free software like this...

The only free software even close is a webcam surveillance program... and that is extremely limited in features, not to mention its a frickin webcam......

The AT&T service has door/window sensors, motion sensors, AND cameras.
No downloaded program can detect a door being opened, or a window, or motion... not sure where your argument is.

The patriot act... ok but just don't put a camera in your grow room and you're good...

Be smart around your house, if you're growing you shouldn't be sloppy around your house anyways, there should be no problem having a few cameras around, just behave yourself while on camera.

I don't know if you grow for personal use or commercial but either way the stuff we grow is VERY valuable... $220 isn't much to spend for security. I am not rich by any means... I just know what is important, and that's securing your area. Think of it this way, 1 oz pays for that security setup... that's not much at all. And even if you don't sell it, you still save the money you'd spend on buying it...

And where the hell do you live? People rob grow houses all the time, tell 1 wrong person and you can get robbed.

cingular is the best imo, best choice of phones, and best service, if you want to bitch about dropped calls and no service you should get a sprint or nextel plan

It says on the description of the water sensor it "detects the presence or absence of water". Hmmm, it might work.
