As the title states, ill be relocating in the very near future and starting over from scratch.....but id like help in doing so! Im not looking to get the absolute highest end of everything, but nothing super cheap either

The room is 4x4x7 and will be doing DTW coco in 2 gal smarties.....and thats about all i have so far! Im looking for suggestions on what has been working recently for everyone. I am not planning on air cooling the hood given my ambient temps

Heres a few ideas i had in mind:
  • 600w dimable ballast w/ blockbuster hood or something w/ similar footprint
  • 6" inline fan 400-500cfm w/LARGE carbon scrubber, as odor is a big concern
  • location has central air that should be sufficient for intake to keep temps low
Please feel free to throw out any suggestions on manufacturers, locations to purchase, etc. This is essentially a mini trial run at a new location before upping the ante to large scale.

Thanks in advance!

My thoughts:

-1kw light setup. If you're buying a kit, they're not that much more expensive between 600 and 1000. Plus most electronic ballasts have a dim function that could let you dim down to close to that. With a 1kw light you can go down, but with a 600w you can't go up. Plus in most grows your light input is your limiting factor, that's why efficiency is measured in grams per watt. Higher yields with a bigger light.

-Filter: As someone who is now on their second run on their first grow setup, go overkill on odor control if it's a big deal. I ran a single 6 inch sized 24" long carbon filter and during flowering it was still smelly as hell all over the house and outside some. I picked up a second carbon filter to put on the end of the line this time around, but on my next build I will be having 3 total carbon filters. I plan on doing 1 on the intake to the lights to act as a recirculating scrubber, then 2 connected like this: Filter->out of box->fan->filter. That way air from inside the box is double filtered before being exhausted, plus the filter that is on the fan cooling line acts as a room scrubber for added coverage.

As far as branding, I've had good luck with my iPower combo (cooltube, 2x bulbs, ballast) setup. I went with the 6" green HydroFarm fan, they run about $80 shipped on amazon, plus they have a 3-5 year warranty, so good deal there. I've never had issues with Amazon and shipping for most supplies, and I ordered 80+% of the main stuff from there, they're pretty discreet and delivery drivers don't think twice about delivering a bunch of big Amazon boxes.

thanks anon, im pretty set on the 600, as i will only be running 2-3 plants. Im not planning on buying a kit and will be parting out everything individually and purchased locally....other than a few minor things. this is not funded by myself so cost isnt a large concern of mine....although im trying to keep everyting in the 800-1000 range, as it will most likely only be used only once....

its kinda a test run....for lack of a better term

I've been running two 600w phantom digi dim able ballasts for about two years now. No complaints! It's a hydrofarm product as well, and I've got to say, everything from them has been really solid.
Blu mats are a cool option, I'm a fan of them for drip watering, and they automatically adjust if you supplement with teas. There are a couple of big threads on them...
You will probably want to SCROG or super crop to maximize your canopy and thereby yield...
Enjoy!

Oh, bulbs! I just started using digilux, and they seem solid, very bright! Well packaged!
Have used ushio with good results, also really liked agrosun, and hortilux is bomb, but not really worth the upgrade from the 60-70 dollar price range to the 80-100$ top shelf range
My two sense!

you want to hit 50 watts per square foot of light.4x4 is 16 s.f.600 watts divided by 16 equals 37.5 watts a s.f.you can run 2 400's for 50 watts a s.f.or a 400 and a 600 for a little over 62 watts a s.f or 2 600's for 75 watts a s.f..save your money on a hood and run bare bulb vertical style.2 digital ballasts with two sockets and bulbs should not run over 450.i run lumatek dimmable.i also like phantom ballasts.look up weed donuts or just go to the vertical section.good luck how ever you decide.

Get a magentic ballast to save money. digi ballast are super expensive!!!

Blockbuster hoods are very big and expensive.
I use a yield master supreme hood, it's airccooled, fits your 4x4 footprint, and much cheaper then the rest.
Use a phresh carbon filter, they are lighter and just as affordable as the rest.

600w hps is what I use and they will work great in you 4x4 area.
