It was a beautiful spring day and I was out for a walk in my neighborhood. I had my video camera with me, and as I passed this house the dog rushed the fence and started barking at me. He kept on barking and I was happy to take more footage. As soon as the neighbor appeared to quiet the dog I left... I just wanted the dog video, not a confrontation.
The neighbor chased me down and started yelling at me. She tried to tell me it was illegal to tape her dog. As she kept yelling at me, I turned on the camera to get some footage of her, too. :sasmokin: She soon went inside to call the cops, that's when I left.

2 minutes later a police car swooped up to me as I was walking home. I had a conversation with him about the interaction, explained that dogs don't have expectation of privacy, she was yelling at me in public, etc... He took my information and let me go. I thanked him for not hassling me and told him to assure the lady that I wasn't going to stalk/harass her, but also to tell her to control her dog. That's all. His response was, "Don't get into it with your neighbors, just call us if there's a problem."

I hope you enjoy watching the video. I had fun editing it and couldn't resist uploading it to the internet. You haven't seen the rest of the video, so you can't see how much the dog barks, and how annoying that can be. So please don't post "That dog's doing nothing wrong". It's the neighbor who's doing something wrong, which is not controlling her dog, leaving it in a distressed and worried state so that it barks at everything. I admit it might be creepy to video tape one's neighbor's dog; that's not the issue.

To the dog lovers: I like dogs, I just don't like to hear them all the time. My two dogs passed away recently, but I don't plan on replacing them. They barked, mostly at the mailman, but they stayed inside and just annoyed us. They would bark back at the other dogs, even inside, and that was annoying, too. Right now I am surrounded by barking dogs, and I started getting footage just to prove my point. I don't want to tape the neighbors. I try to just get footage of dogs when they're alone, barking at the world, although they usually focus on the camera when they see it. They're publicity whores  .

Please don't respond with illegal suggestions. I'm sure there are many people who have considered killing their neighbor's dog, but you go to jail for that, so it's not a good idea. Don't offer to send me any of that recalled pet food, either.

If you only learn one thing from wasting your time reading this, it's 'Don't act stupid infront of a video camera!' :sasmokin:

Our dog runs like a whacko up and down the lawn barking when someone walks by, especially with a dog. He's behind an electric fence.

I don't get it. Is there a problem with that?

The passersby might not like it, but they're gone in a few seconds. How do you think your neighbors like hearing that all day?

If a dog is outside hearing a dog bark, nonstop, I can see there being a problem.

But if a passerby walks by every 2 hours or something, which is my case, and the dog barks (when it's outside), I don't think that's a big deal.

The animal instinctively wants to protect its turf, and there really isn't much you can do about that. What are the police gonna do - order killing the dog? Order mandatory training? And what if that doesn't work? Seems like there isn't much to do about it

So what should be ordered? Training?

If training doesn't work - what else - keep the dog inside all day, drivin' him or her nuts?

All dogs bark dude. Having worked at a vet clinic, that is not considered annoying barking to me. Try having forty dogs bark at you all day, not to mention having them try to bite you...I know that you just wanted to get some video footage of the dog being annoying, but that is just asking for some sort of confrontation from the owner. If someone came up to my property and was filming my backyard, I would be confused too.

Now the owner of the dog was obviously not on her best behavior either. When I was a kid, our neighbor's dog barked a lot too. We contacted the head of our neighborhood and they went and talked to the owner of the dog. They eventually had to get rid of the dog for other reasons though. You do have some sort of proof that the dog is barking now, but I would expect that kind of behavior from a dog when you are close to its turf.

dude, i have a dog that is smaller louder more annoying and yippy..dogs bark, its nature just like we speak. You should just leave it alone unless she leaves the dog out barking all night and it disturbs your/other neighbours sleep. Thats the only way that the cops could legally do anything (noise complaint). Just suck it up and remeber that if that annoys you then NEVER get your own dogs

yeah its probably best a dog like that doesnt reproduce 9 lives... too bad shit like that doesnt happen too often to stupid people... if all the stupid people ran under a cars tires they wouldn't reproduce and make more stupid people right... I swear if i had a neighbor with a dog like that i would be calling the humane society every week till they got rid of that thing.

I had a dog that was a lot worse than that. Neighbors did not seem to mind because most of them were gone all day, and they had dogs too. Plus, my dog was a sweetheart, just vocal. She was about 115 lbs, and had a very high bark, if a dog's voice could crack, hers did. Was totally not how you expected a large dog to bark. And she did it all day long. For no reason. I would watch her through a window and she would just be laying on the grass barking. Not at anything in particular, just barking to bark.
That lady went a little overboard, she is just a loon. What you were doing isn't a illegal. It might seem a little strange to the dog owner, but there is nothing wrong with it. I would come question you as to what you were doing video taping my yard, and probably be a little suspicious as to what you are up to. And I am pretty sure her dog is not in violation of anything either. Unless it was loud enough for a noise complaint, or you get the neighbors to sign a petition, you are just gonna have to deal with barking dogs.
