Need to move. Where?

If you don't mind, I'd like to run a tentative plan by you and see where the pitfalls lie. FWIW, I debated taking this to PMs, as some of the discussion may not please some, as seen earlier in the thread. The thing is, I'm sure there are many others in a similar position and something like this can help folks define their goals. Anyway....

Simon
Ive been following this thread and it has been very informative... I, like you simon, am in a situation where id like to move from the east coast to a med state, and have all the same fundamental concerns as you. I am reluctant to post because im semi-new on this forum and i havent seen you really show any interest in cali(my target). If you dont mind me asking is there a reason why no cali is not an option?

In any case i wanted to say thank for the thread; there have been several really good insights on the nation mmj scene. I hope all goes well with your move, and all is well:thank you:

Because cali's market is FLOODED... You would be better off finding a med state where the whole medical scene isn't blown up. Everyone and there brother decided to move to cali to grow bud with the dreams of hitting it big! instead the market just went down the tubes because there is such a surplus of product.

Don't know where on the east coast your at but elbows around the MA/RI/Conn area of dank should fetch you anywhere from 32-36 all day long depending on the quality. I know med states arent going to fetch you those kinda prices unless you have some real out of this world stuff.

I charge 36 all day, but that's some pretty nice meds too...

Hey bobble what's strain is your best tester %???

So far ECSD tested at 21.5% I think? ChemD 19.5%... My Ultimate Strawberry Diesel 19.9%... Those were multiple strain grows. I'm going to dial in each and every plant in it's own room, and hopefully get closer to 25%. Then I'll get $4k a lb all day long. Go to MiCannalytics.com and you can see the best herbs in Michigan. We have a few very skilled growers here in Mi. Basically anything above 20% is straight fire.

Colorado is flooded.

CA is nothing even close to flooded with good pot, in my humble opinion.

Yeah lots of people are going big in CA. But damn near everyone smokes pot brother, and CA has many, many people. The demand is absurd.

I wanna hear some more opinions on Cali. Let's hear more about the downsides that you wouldn't think of, but coming from the midwest or South would inevitably pop out at you. I'm thinking crime would be a big one.

But at the same time, the idea of being able to operate in a more or less free and open environment is appealing. One thing that's limiting me right now being out in the boondocks, is access to markets.

CA is huge and the "scene" isn't really a scene, it's just a crazy web of networks going in every which way. Ten diff people may come in after me spouting different opinions, and all of them may be honest and worthwhile.

IMO, the criminal element is exaggerated in the CA weed scene for non-retarded people. Gangsters out west don't pose as something different; you'll know who to avoid just like anywhere else. I don't foresee crime being an issue.

One of the biggest weed hustlers I know in CA is a fat middle class white chick who gets real nervous and twitchy when you look her in the eye...not exactly 187 on a motha fuckin coppppp type vibe you know? hah..

Or the nicest guy in the world may kill your wife and throw you overboard in the Pacific- that's life, right?

Things that stand out:

- yes CA is expensive, but A) CARE Program puts a huge damper on this if you qualify (it's abuse of the system, but a lot of people here use it) B) profit margins overall are significantly better than Colorado, and wayyyy better than a lot of CA growers say. You read the board sometimes you'd think 3400 a pound is causing humble old growers to start blowing dudes on the corner for mcdonalds money or something...

- Moving to CA to grow is hardly original at this point, you missed the rush by a decade. Alas! there is still demand for good bud. Growers I know who moved from Colorado to LA lliterally lol at fellow SOCAL growers who complain of a "saturated market." I guess if you're from CA and you grew up in the "golden era" of growing you'd think CA is "flooded." But it isn't.

In CA if you have great product, you can waltz your ass into a club and make a sale in a day, and forge great relationships, starting meeting the right people to middle, etc. You can also just hang out in a non-socially retarded way and meet reliable and safe middles basically anywhere in norcal...ok not that easy but pretty close...

You can't really do that anywhere else in the world that I'm aware of.

(more random thoughts...)

My view is that it's almost always best to stay where you are if you're growing in a location where you have reliable middles or enough patients for your liking. Despite all I said in favor of CA, I wouldn't move from CO to CA just to theoretically make 1300 more a pound.

Yeah, I'd probably meet a reliable middle/club buyer who respects my stuff and wants to form a relationship. But what if I don't? And what if you don't? You got that side of the equation down already? If not, moving to the other side of the country in the hopes that you meet some guy to move your product seems a huge gamble, no?

Jah bless.

I get 32 all day long....in Michigan. They pay up to 4 for top grade, but I rather save myself hassle and sell at a lower price point...

If dispensaries are selling $20-$35 1/8ths I doubt they are buying pounds for more than $2000.

dispensaries here have to grow 70% of their product

The dispensary owner I know does not buy any product, he trades.
Some dispensaries grow all their own as vendor weed really cuts into the profit.

There is still a robust black market and the prices are a bit higher than dispensaries as far as I know.

Also, there is a distinct possibility that Amendment 64 will pass this Fall, if the government doesn't change the results.
That would change everything in a way I can not predict.

I do not think moving to CO to make money from weed is a good idea.

Thanks for all the thoughts on ca......
After digesting this a little a few thing seem really essential no matter what state your in...
1.) quality bud
2.) common sense
3.) a willingness to take the time needed to make quality relationships
4.) dont have a set number on price..... obviously this matters, but in all cases you wont get what you got in the east....

As many readers already kno, the appeal of breathing easy and having peace of mind is my intention in moving and is worth all the trouble involved.... Some may take for granted the freedom and safety provided to those who do it right in a market where so many dont.

As far as markets being flooded.... and im echoing another post above here... it seems like the market is flooded with mediocre pot grown by those who dont have the passion that say someone who is willing to move 3000 miles for does.

Again, thank you for all the posts,..... very helpful.

Thanks for chiming in still pluggin, that's kinda what I was thinking/hoping. Like I said I get 32 at the one disp here, probably less in Cali, but I'm out in the boondocks and I'm just sick and tired of this small town. I got a few customers, but the volume is limited it's just a struggle to find good folks to work with. Competition doesn't concern me, that's what I like. I just need an opportunity to make things happen. Sounds like a move to Cali may be in my future.

Gingerale- You don't need to move to Cali bro... You just need to make some connections in Detroit, Lansing, Grand Rapids... There's lots of us right here on this site. You could even get in your car, and start driving from dispensary to dispensary... that's what I did. Now I have contacts both on the street and in a dispensary... Drop me a PM.

i would still be back east if i dint own in so cal.i would rather be illegal and rakin it in . than legal and getting by. ma has a great market.

I wish all the more warm east coast states had penalties similar to the notheasternish states.

No guns involved, first time offenders tend to do OK (very short sentence or probation usually) in all east coast states north of PA. First time offender in north carolina, south carolina, georgia and florida- unless you have tons of money saved and a great, great resume- honestly just kill yourself. Your life is fucked. You'll never repay the debt you had to pay in "tax stamps" and bs court fees, you'll get multiple years in a dangerous, dangerous gang-controlled US South prison, etc.

If you're white and not physically large, you're in serious physical danger in any of those prisons. Odds are you WILL be assaulted regularly. Not so in most northern/midwestern prisons.

Just throwing out random info I have on these issues. Hopefully they help someone.
