Need some Sacramento area advice for a very sick friend

The situation:
I have a friend going through chemotherapy. Yesterday, the doctor had to stop treatment because he is getting badly ill from it and can't hold down food. This person has never even tried cannabis in their lives before. I got called by the family because I am the "cannabis expert" in my circle, but I don't know much about CA MMJ - I moved out of state right as 215 was kicking in. The sad thing is that his own doctor doesn't have a clue - literally said: "I don't know how to write a prescription for pot."

My questions:

1. Doesn't he just need a written recommendation from the doc? Is there some standard form for that?

2. Maybe he should just go to a local "MMJ doc" to get the rec? Money is short, so he'd like to avoid this if possible, but if this is going to be the way that gets medicine in his hands today (it is that urgent), then could anyone recommend an decent doc in the area?

3. Can someone recommend a really pro dispensary in the area with a real solid medical approach? I need someone with real experience with chemo patients who can help a total newb find the right strain. Very important that the place has a selection beyond "super dankster fuck you up weed" and their stuff needs to be really clean - no bad flush, no dusty outdoors, no mold, etc. So I am looking for the best bet to avoid those problems.

4. Smoking it is too much for him right now and my experience with edibles/tinctures/etc indicates to me that they would be a poor choice as I haven't found that I get any kind of munchies from this consumption method. I am also worried that those methods might not be so good for a newb because dosage is going to be easy to fuck up and it can lead to a "whitey" too easy IMO. All that said - WTF do I know about going through chemo? So if you think I should re-examine this please clue me in otherwise I am going to recommend a vape.

I really appreciate any advice that the community can give me here as this is pretty urgent. The doctor says that he has to get back on chemo ASAP. He has a brain tumor - so this is definitely life and death.

This is ASA's take on prop 215:

basicly you friends Dr should give a written rec although a verbal is ok. a written is best as it can be verified by Leo or a disp.

there is a medicann in sac. they might be compassionate on fees for a cancer patient but no guarantees.

Ive been to Hugs, Fruitridge, and Horizon on Powerinn rd. Can recommend all. Maybe some Sac heads can jump in here are rec some others.

As far as edibles vs vap, I personally would go w/ vap as I like to be able to control my meds but some like edibles. Recommend they start with small portions and wait an hour before eating more- its easy to overdo it on edibles and before you know it you are in too deep .

Best wishes to your friend.
