need some lighting help.

alright i need to light a 32 inch tall by 20 inch wide by 10 inch deep cab, i have 40 bucks to spend on lighting, can it be done?

ive thought of maybe a 70 watt HPS 30$ then buy a 3 pack of 20 watt CFLS with the remaining ten for a total of 130 watts. will this be enough? i need to flower one or maybe 2 plants using the scrog method. This would give me the full array of the light spectrum that mj like anyway.

Second choice i found 20-13 watt CFLs on ebay for 20 bucks buy it now shipped. i found a way to do a bowl scrog and make a light rack in a bowl shape also that i can almost fit all 20 in given the dimensions i found on the internet for the bulbs. But im aware when at low wattage CFLS watt to lumen ratio is very in-efficient.

third choice. 1-105 watt envirolite style CFL then when i can afford to throw another couple bucks in buy the 3 pack of 20 watters for flowering.
but im also aware CFLS do not pack penetration compared to even low watt HIDS LIKE THE 70 WATT hps so im convinced with my lst work and bushy strain im grow CFLs alone wont penetrate my canapy enough to get the yeild im looking for of 1 oz or close to.

fourth choice i put em outside haha. but id really like to keep a babey inside this summer to dip my hands in the bucket of advanced training methods like supercroppin fiming lst and topping.


ive never needed over 80-90 watts because ive used small cabs for previous grows (speakers mostly) and im stepping it up a little bit with almost 2 times the size and im lost haha, i need sufficient light so i thought id consult yall before i made a purchase.

I'd go with the 70 hps + cfl combo.

for that amount of money cfl's cant be beat
little over 100$ us, in fixtures and bulbs and the Y that screw's into the socket to allow 2 bulbs each fixture !! 280w mixespectrum cfl in the pic

All I use for my clones/seedlings is one four foot fluorescents. I keep them there in 16oz dixie cups untill fully rooted... My question is JJ, and Maj pot head, since you both have sweet vegg set-ups is 40 watts enough light or could I use more during the germination/rooting stages. I have another four footer.

Well, I like your first choice. Otherwise loading up on a combination of cool & warm spiral cfl's would be the way to go. I got some of those fixtures that JJ has in his pic at Home Depot. They work really great & are chrome plated so, it's just like having a reflector for your cfl's. You'll just need to buy a power cord & wire it in as these things are intended for wall mounting in a bathroom or vanity area. I've seen fixtures that take 2,3 or 4 bulbs.
Just take a nice long walk around a Lowes or HD & look for anything that you might use to hang cfl's down into your grow space to get that penetration you were concerned about. Use your imagination.....lots of things can be modified to fit your needs.
Good luck on your project as that's a darn small space to try & equip.

thx yes 40w of fluro should be sufficient for this need i use 40w to start clones in the past n/p

thanks guys im gunna go with the 70 watt HPS and cfl combo seems most logical to me at this point ill get the penetration and dual spectrums needed. But me next concern was the watts per sqft is it enough? theres what 3 and some change square foot in there so 3/130watts is roughly 42 watts per sqft is this enough? i was aiming for the recomended 50 watts per sqft but with and HPS in the mix i can expect to be close to a gram a watt in such a tight space.
