Whats the difference between Coco and Soil? In terms of yield, final product...And whats best?
i use a mix of house and garden bat special and coco 50/50 , no phing just use soil feed with drop extra calmag and enzymes and they grow fine... faaarrrr better than soil alone and easy to use
i use 50% coco & 50% promix..with ewc & shrimp compost
Coco yields more, but is more labor intensive and less forgiving. Also takes more nutrients/additives. You can make a good organic soil mix that has everything they will basically need for their life span, and if done properly, you can water/feed once a week with basic nutes and almost ignore them. I have mothers in soil and left town for 7 days. I watered/fed them heavy before I left, came back and all that happened was they got bigger. I'm switching to hydro for my flowering room because I'm setting up a perpetual, but I'm keeping my mothers in soil for the time being. Coco looks interesting, but I'm not an in between person. Its either dirt or hydro for me.
a mix of dirt and soil is the future for ease of use and good results, if you havnt tried id you should
why either coir or soil and not a mix?? just curious, why rob you self, any practical reason or just personal choice ?
Honestly, I have no interest in using EVERY grow method. I wanted to learn about soil becasue it has knowledge that is easily applicable in other areas, such as my yard/landscaping. I've been spraying a nutrient/microbial tea on my azalea's, tiger lillies and daffodils/tulips, plus my yard and it has never looked better. Even old ladies are like "your azalea bushes are amazing!" I wanted to learn hydro because once you have the basics of nutes, ppm and ph down, plus all the equipment, its easy to apply to NFT, bubblers, aero or coco. Coir requires special nutrients and all types of shit, plus its only re-useable 3 times. I'm in a non med state so cutting down on trips to the hydroponic store is always good. This requires borrowing a vehicle not registered at my grow location to prevent nosy cops being lazy and tailing people back to suspected grow ops instead of doing real police work. I don't know if they do it in my state, but they certainly do in neighboring states. Paranoia has always paid off for me in the past, and its much cheaper to be paranoid than panicked. I can use expanded shale or hydroton a million times, and contrary to popular belief, its really not that hard to wash/sterilize. Not to mention more air to the roots, better yields, no fungus gnats, plus not having to worry about disposal of media. I have about 25 gallons of soil in a container from my last grow that I have to go dump somewhere that isnt my yard because of all the perlite in it.
you can dump coir/ soil mix straight into the back garden as it looks natural , just like dirt, you also treat it just like dirt, use soil feeds , no ph ect.. its got the ease of soil but with coir results, whats not to like,
just saying!
oh and you can re-use this mix as often as you like providing you flush at the end
I might give it a whirl later on, but I already have a $600 pile of equipment and nutrients that is going in the two rooms over the next few days. When I get my perpetual fully loaded and dialed in, I'll grab a bale of coco and some Canna nutes and side by side it vs hydroton in my environment with clones so I can make a final decision.
