need screens for dry sieving

Thinkin about trying some dry sieving. Im going with screens, but have the option to go with either polyester mesh, nylon mesh, or polypropylene. Which do i go get?

Also sizes available are mesh opening microns ranging from 1 to 2000. I was thinking about going with the 105, 73 and maybe the 40 micron. What do u guys think? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

cant go wrong with the 8 sizes bubbleman uses. 220 160 120 104 90 73 45 25. I may be off a lil. Keep the 90 and 73 for your purse and sell or trade the rest. Use the 220 for cooking. The 160, 120, 104 can be mixed and sold. The 45 and 25 can be mixed and sold for more. The 90 and 73 taste the best and bubble great.

Almost all drysieving screen i've seen us use is polyester. Keep in mind trich heads range in average size from 120 micron to 160 micron and for dry sieving i would base the screen size you get on those numbers. You can't base the same screen sizes for dry sieving as you do water extraction. The methods are a bit different (water as an aggitator being a key factor).

Dude , you need nylon mono-filament screen mesh. Mesh sizes are not the same as micron. http://www.poconoscreen.com/products/saati.html. Here is a list of mesh sizes that I buy from. Basically, 61 mesh is about 220 micron , 158 mesh is about 90 micron , 196 mesh is about 74 micron.

Dickblick poly mono screen. If i was using 3 screens i would get 110tpi, 125 tpi, and 120tpi. Only problem ordering online is most places require you to buy larger pieces.

I just ordered some 420 mesh, 25 micron nylon screen from Pocono for 35 bucks plus shipping. This is high quality screen. MMMM good.

meshes for ice hashing & dry sifting really do not apply to each other - as mentioned above the technique/theory is very different ..and the trichomes are different too ...with dry sifting the resin heads/trichomes are dried, shrivelled and smaller compared to frozen trichomes fresh off the tree to be bubble bagged.

depending on the strain being run through the mesh for dry sifting/"kiffing"..

I suggest...........

an ideal single screen mesh would be 100 ~ 125 threads per inch......

for those wishing to use two meshes ...a combination of 100 ~ 120 with 120 ~145 tpi would work well..i grow outdoor sativas so 120 + 145 works for me....while a combo of 110 and 130 might be a better choice for those kiffing indoor fatties....(check out the dual screen stash boxes on seedbay.com and seedboutique.com)

for three screen sifting .....with yield and good purity in mind you can use 80 + 110 + 130 for most strains....with absolute purity in mind use 120 + 140 + 220 mesh (check out Bubbleman's triple mesh screen bubble box)

Also Chammba, i checked out pearls (art supply store) , all they have is

8XX = 86 holes per linear inch
12XX = 124 holes per linear inch
14XX = 138 holes per linear inch"

are those any good, pli?

Dude, dont use multi filament. Use mono filament nylon mesh. It will be high quality heavy duty screen and it wont rip on you. Mono filament is the only way to acurately gauge the size of holes in the screen and what is getting through.

Heya, sorry to bringa back this old thread, but I need an advice.
I'm doing my first grow now, I'll be harvesting in about a month, and I don't want to discard the trimmings (which are starting to show trichs right now). I asked around for a silk screen 120 threads per inch/single thread mesh. The cheapest they could offer me was A4 size... and I wouldn't call it cheap. The price of this silk screen is near the price that I would have to give to get the same amount of MJ I'm expecting to get out of my plants... so really there's no point in buying that that.

So I was thinking of an alternative... a stocking perhaps put on a frame. My goal is not quality hash... I won't even press it. I just want to collect the trichs from the trimmings and smoke em. So will a stocking do the job? Or maybe some other cheap material?

If I don't find any cheap technique to get the trichs out of the trimmings, then I'll probably make some bhang (trichs dissolved in vodka)

This is pretty cheap. Anyone tried these? Is it good quality? I guess shipping to Europe would be pricey but it really looks like a good deal.

I don't know about Europe but in the US, Australia and many other places have art supply shops that sell stuff for artists and hobbyists....they often stock "screen printing frames" ...basically a ready made screen frame 15 x 12 inches, 30 x 38 cm consisting of a basic wooden frame stapled together with a synthetic mesh stretched and glued to the frame.....the mesh size is usually written on the frames or printed on the mesh....the usual sizes are "100" or "120" which should do the job....even an "80" will do if you are gentle and don't mind a little extra veg matter in there

these are a good start to the art of dry sifting


and if you are harvesting soon, don't plan on dry sifting as soon as the trimmings are dry as the yield will not be as good as it should be...plus the resin heads need to properly dry out and become brittle so they will drop off more efficiently..anyway that's the way every commercial hash producer does it....as does Sam the Skunkman....for best results slow dry the trimmings for several months in an undisturbed place, dry & cool.....the plant matter will lose it's green and the hash can be smoked immediately after dry sifting...you can dry sift dried trim that was harvested off live plants a week or two before.....but the high and yield is better if you wait...and if you not really careful the resin heads can smudge as they are still "wet"...you can sort of compare cannabis resin heads to tree sap...at first it's flexible and then after months of drying out it becomes crystallized

the middle one alone (124 holes per inch) will do the job...but a combination of all of the above three screens will make a very high quality hash.
