Need inline fan recomendations

So, i believe i will be building a DIY scrubber, but im pissed you can't do a DIY fan ;) lol... anyways, im looking to clear around 100 cubic feet. noise is the biggest issue, as well... it will be a 4" fan, i know larger fans with lower CFM ratings are quieter, but thats the hole i have cut... anyways, any recomendations? hoping to stay inexpensive, but not cheap (there is a difference, cheap is crap and inexpensive is not)

Check out the Panasonic Whisperline fans...super quiet and very reliable...rewci.com has 'em cheap...

If stealth is a concern you may want to avoid centrifugals. They're screaming loud. If people are allowed into the room, I'd suggest the Whisperlines or S&P Mixed Vents.

I second Freezerboy on the S&P recommendation... I have the 4 inch S&P and it is considerably quieter and cheaper than a 4 inch vortex, however, it doesen't move as much air as the vortex... 100cfm vs. 175cfm

Even if the Vortex topped out at 100 CFM it would still out pull a 135 cfm S&P. The mixed vent simply can't compete with centrifugals for suction. Unfortunately the Vortex would still be twice as loud. Those things scream.

Every thing's a trade-off. An advantage here means a disadvantage there. If you can keep people out of the room the fan lives and exhausts in (the attic, locked basement, secret room) centrifugals are the way to go. If you use a cab in rooms others are allowed to occupy, centrifugals are the devil.

You can't cut a bigger hole..... just wondering

Centrifugals are loud but you can suppress the noise in a few ways.

1. once ducting has been added it quiets the sound of the airflow and the fans motor some...use insulted and oversized ducting and it will cut down on the noise even more.

2. Build an insulated fan box out of 3/4" MDF....this actually silences the fan itself....no more unwanted motor noise.

3. insulated inline duct muffler.

4. adding a carbon scrubber will greatly reduce the noise of the air being exhuasted.

I have done my research and when it comes to Static Pressure ie;long runs of ducting, anything that can add back pressure, inline centrifugals are the way to go!

My Elicent was the single quietest centrifugal available. Quintuple silenced (5X) :insulated duct, fan speed control, fan isolation box, muffler, all buried under several feet of foam, it was still clearly audible at my neighbors door across the street over 100 feet away.

If you can lock the fan and exhaust into a room no one can ever enter, centrifugals rock. If the fan is in a common area, they're a flashing neon sign screaming for attention.

Wow that's pretty loud.My 4" 172cfm Eco Plus inline centrifugal sits right on top my cab and with ducting and I cant hear it if I close my bedroom door and sit in the adjacent room.

If you can close the door on them, go centrifugal.

When I say audible at my neighbors door, it's no longer SaturnV loud, rather a cricket in the bedroom, chinese water torture, irritating as hell ... "sound." One of the only two familiar with my grow was allowed into the garage and immediately demanded to know "What's that noise?" I could keep the noise in the garage but that meant keeping the garage locked up. Now neighbors were coming by to see if I'm OK cause my garage is usually open. Centrifugals can be contained but, I'll never use one in a common area again.
