You can use those. If I used one of those and had that reading i would water. Always check more than 1 area. The best way to tell is if the pot is light. If it is water/.

Your plant looks great - don't worry too much about a few lower leaves. I use the pick up the pot and feel the weight method as well.

You are in soil and fabric bag. The easiest, and IMO the best, way to water that is to get a tub and make a SWICK bed. Set the bag on that, and all you have to do is water the SWICK. You Cal-Mag and pH the water that gets put in. Feed once a week with the stuff you like, by top watering.

Easy.

Into a 14-18" high tub lay a 4" drain pipe coiled onto itself for support of the plant weight. Fill to 3"above the 4" pipe with perlite. I like to make a tube to see the water level - cutting the top off a water bottle and making some holes in the bottom works.

That plant will use 3/4 to 1 gallon each day as a guide.

Here are 4 in a tent, waiting for 10 gallon bags. If you don't like the perlite getting green, cover it with a cloth or put a layer of vermeculite on top. The little circles are the plastic water bottles I cut so I could see the water level. You want the water at least 1" below the bottom of the bag.

The fallen leaves on the bottom are not getting enough light so the plant energy moved to the higher leaves that are getting more light. I don't think the leaf loss is caused by water. Your plant looks good to me. I don't like those moisture meters because they can give false readings.

If you learn what your volumetric measurement of the container is you can better monitor your water intake. In other words, for example, I have a plant in a 5-gallon pot of potting mix that can only hold 3 and a half liters of liquid. Knowing this allows me to know the exact amount of water to use on water day. The way I find the watering day is let the plant go without water until it wilts just a little. Count the days and subtract one day from the total and that's the watering day or time. 😎

I agree with Creeper Park, your plants look good to me and most likely your leaf loss is due more to those leaves just not getting enough light. Judging by the size of your plants those leaves were like more of a drain then a benefit. It's unfortunate that you can't lift the pots to judge whether it needs water as that's probably the most preferred method for indoor soil grows. In an ideal world with the meter sitting where it is now you should probably water but unfortunately the world is less then ideal and so are those moisture meters which is why so many go with the lift method. Since that's not an option for you both what Creeperpark suggested or what flylowgethigh suggested are workable alternatives I can't say which is best though because I've always used the lift method and have not tried either of those alternate methods but the premise each is based on seems sound.
