Pests is a pretty broad term and they vary wildly by region. What kind of area/climate/pests are you asking about specifically? I'm also assuming from the way you worded your question that you are referring to strictly organic methods?

For all pest, if say keeping your room clean and go as far as changing the cloths you ware when you enter. That's for a broad range. Be a little more specific and I can give you a better answer.

The Raccoons made me crazy for a few years and I tried everything (except a big dog) to keep them away. I finally tried some mothballs. I could see where they picked them up and moved them a foot and spit the mothballs out. I finally got a crop outside without being bothered and the thought of them chewing on those nasty chemicals cheered me up.

What were you using for fertilizer? Did you water with fish emulsion? There are few things on the planet that will attract critters like raccoons and possums faster than that stuff. Blood meal is almost as bad.

If they continue to be a problem, they can be live-trapped and relocated, or ... trapped and humanely dispatched. Bait the trap with a small can of the cheapest cat-food you can find. But, be sure to check the traps every day because it rarely takes more than one night for them to find it.

There is a herd of them around that move to different neighborhoods and follow the garbage trucks around and go to different places every day. I swear they have a calendar so they know which day the garbage is out. Anyway I grow outdoors in the garden with no flower pots so I just fertilize once with a local lawn food made from chicken droppings. The Raccoons go for anything sweet. I have had them climb up a regular bush to get at the sweet flowers. When the coons get too thick around here I live trap for a while and relocate several miles away (to bother someone else). I use the canned fish cat food and they love that. I trap the night before the garbage is picked up. Every couple years I buy a new box trap because they are strong enough to trash it out eventually.
