Ahhh.... The shoestring budget.

My last grow improved 100% when I was finally able to purchase a roll of Duct Tape :woohoo:

I hear you on the no funds. In my experience, and I have a lot in this field, growing without money can be extremely frustrating if you're depending on the harvest for meds.

I always advise folks to take their time. Save up more cash, read up on more information while you save. You're not going to die if you don't start this right now.

Heck, tomorrow you might even see the perfect dresser or wardrobe on the street, ready to be thrown away.

Foam board insulation will help drown out the sound. Drywall will also.
Look into making a silencer for your fans?

Are you building a grow box/cab or a sizable grow room? If you're building a room I would step up to 2x4's for the frame so you can insulate it and hang drywall on both sides. If you're building a box or a cab I would shoot for 1" HDF or MDF.

Density is your friend in the fight against sound. Blue/Pink foam board is a decent insulator but doesn't do squat for sound suppression compared to dense materials like HDF, MDF, and drywall.

right more info the room i am going to build must be big enough to take an 3 x 3 ebb and flood table i only have a 400watt aircooled light but will change to 600watt once room is built i have a 6ins carbon phat filter and matching fan..and i was going to use a 5ins for intake but was told passive intake better..i also have a primair controller..the room i want too make will be with
drywall on both sides and insulate inbetween walls..so i think room should be about 1.40cms wide by 8ft high..later alza06

I think you'll be fine as far as sound deadening goes. You can get a variac controller for your fan to quiet it down and use insulated ducting after it for a muffler. Is this going to be a flowering only room or are you going to be keeping mothers and vegging clones? Regardless, remember that if you have a 6" exhaust you should have 2 x 6" passive intake holes.

I've seen budget minded people help with acoustics by lining the walls with bottoms of egg cartons. Every lil bit helps, I guess.

I'll 2nd the egg cartons. I just put some in my space. I grow under a wooden staircase, and it's reduced the noise ~50%
