need help with my new scrog

howdy all. i just built this scrog screen from picos tutorial in the diy area but i dunno how high it should be over my canopy. i plan on vegging for at least a week or two more. as of right now, none of the plants are touching the screen. one or two are within a couple inches and the rest are a decent distance away. the plants are not sexxed yet so i plan on vegging them until the all show but i dunno if i should put the screen in now or wait until they are sexxed. i dont wanna pull a bunch of males out from the screen. here are the pics, let me know of a ny ideas or suggestions you may have to offer

Not sure how you water, but if you do hand water its key to have the screen high enough above the pots so that you can easily get in there and water. Im on my 3rd Scrog session in a row... I learned that the hard way. This time its alot better, but still some of the plants are a tad short and a pain to water.

Might wanna wait till they are sexed, then bend them down and drop the screen right on top of em, leaving enough room to water^^

You want the screen 8" - 12" above the rim of the pot, keeping in mind what MR said about watering.

You definitely don't want to be pulling plants from a scrog, so sexing first is a good idea.

that's what i always thought but other day was reading someone saying to fill half the screen prior to sexing.....sounds dumb...i'm also interested in this since i want to scrog on my upcoming first grow. i say wait till they sex OR, if using fem seeds, put on during veg.

The whole idea behind a scrog is to get bigger yields with fewer plants. This requires having your plants exactly where you want them when you put them under the screen because you can't move them once they become intertwined with the screen. Bottom line on that story is first sex the plants then pick your healthiest females to continue to grow. Somewhere in the process, take a few cuttings and start your next grow with clones.

B-nutz, your screen looks kinda tall - maybe not, it's hard to tell from the pics. If the screen is tall, you should install a second screen about 12" under the first. The lower screen you tie your plants to, the upper screen supports your buds when they get bigger.

i think i will just cut the legs down a bit, it seems a bit tall to me as well but since they arent sexxed yet, they may grow into it

good thread. alot of us, at least me, are alittle confused when it comes to scrog. i think we/me make it alot more complicated than needed.

Just put a lower screen in and have two screens - you'll thank me later.

I recently built one of these not long ago for the first time as well. I waited till my plants showed preflowers and pulled the males before I put the screen on as others have suggested. Tying them down and doing some LST is also a good method as it increases the amount of tops to fill up the screen.

I am in 2 weeks into flowering, and recommend that plant tops be just at or even a inch or two above the screen going into flowering. That way as the plants stretch, you can keep pulling them under the screen, filling it up and producing many more tops. I had mine a bit high going in and realized this after a week or so of flowering, next time I will have the screen lower before I flip em.

the lower screen is in and i will soon be installing the screen. they seem to be taking a while to show sex. they do show sex under 18/6 right or am i just worrying lol

most plants will typically show sex uner 18/6 at about 3 weeks. just go 12/12 so you can tell within a week or two at the max
