Need help with making fan quiet...

Well I have a POS eco plus 6" fan that makes noise.. and vibrates a little... (must not be balanced perfectly.. I took it apart and it seems that I can't really adjust it much and there is only one weight to use to balance.. I was thinking about wrapping the fan in foam or building a box around it .. maybe a tupperware thing with foam in it.. I don't know.. ideas would be great..

sounds like a plan to me.
when you say vibrations what do you mean exactly, fan itself or when fan is mounted?
how about hanging your fan on some bungee cords, that might help with the vibrations.

use bungee cords or you may call them rubber tie downs as said above.dont think that nylon will have sufficient give to help dampen the vibration on the fan.

if not build a box and pack it with rockwool polystyrene or any other thing you can think off.hope ya get it sorted m8.

You could build a small box out of plywood and screws. Put some cheap soundproofing on the inside and that would help. Its ambitious, but would probably do a good job.

kiner- i am in the same position as you. except my fan is an elicent 6" 309cfm. and although its not super loud it still might cause some touble.

the idea for a box is really good. you could get some insulation like funkbomb said. i was also thinking you could use the same stuff they put in cars when they install speakers etc.. really thick sound insulation.

i have a feeling i am going to build one of these boxs as well. i think that it could eliminate almost all the noise from the fan.
we will see

later

I have seen people wrap their fans with insulation. Then wrap the insulation to keep it safe. I just worry about fire hazards.
Also, there are washers made of rubber that can be used to screw down the fan tighter. Be careful of stripping the screw though.
I would try and seal the fan together as tight as possible using some type of adhesive so the fan does not vibrate as much. But....
If it is the motor that is making noise then a new purchase may be in the near future.
