Need help. Seed in calyx but I'm not sure if the plant hermied.

Hi guys,

It’s my first time growing and my plant has been flowering (I think) for about 1 week now. There’s no bud yet, only some white hairs growing here and there and some pre-flowers (calyxes) that are there since a few weeks. So yesterday I was taking care of my plant and I saw a very swollen calyx. I know you can have calyx swelling and it’s not a big deal but when I pinched it was hard. I took it off the plant and opened it to find what was looking like a young seed (it had a green shell and some sort of liquid inside).

Unless there is a male growing near my house (which I REALLY doubt), I figured the plant had hermied. Then I took at least 30 min to look closely for pollen sacks or nanners (male flowers) and I found two other full calyxes with the same hard green stuff inside. My plant is huge (6ft tall and at least 4ft wide) so I couldn’t look at every portion of it but I saw absolutely no sign of male flowers. I know sometimes ”nanners‟ are hidden in the bud but like I said there’s only white hairs now. I included a picture of the full plant so you can see it's healthy and growing in good conditions.

So I’m wondering, when a plant goes hermie, do you have male flowers appearing everywhere on the plant or can you have only one or two pollen sack hidden somewhere? Also, when I read about hermie cases on forums, seeds usually seemed to appear later in flowering. How can the plant pollinate itself if I can’t see male flowers? Is it even worth it to let it grow?

Sorry for the long text but I’m quite confused and disappointed so I’d like to get your opinions or answers about what’s going on with my plant.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah you can have one or two nanners and never see them. I would let her continue flowering and watch it close. You can pick the nanners off if you don't get a lot. Seeded bud is better than none.

Thank you for the answer! That sucks. I had very high expectations the last few weeks because she was growing so fast and looked healthy...now I'm soo disappointed.

I still need to ask some questions. Lets say that there was a male pod that opened a few weeks ago and pollinated the calyxes that were there at that time. Is it possible that no more male pods appear and the new calyxes that are forming don't get pollinated? Can I manage to get weed with only a few seeds in it or can I be sure that it's gonna be loaded with them? I'm just trying to build some hope to get motivated again...

Thanks!

is the plant in full sun for some part of the day? it looks like its on a balcony that gets morning or evening sun???

u might have nanners on the lower back end near the wall on the plant.

when u grow indoors and the plants have too much growing down below when it doesn't get ample light it'll hermie too.

also heavy dosages of bloom nutrients and boosters can force hermies.

One thing I bet most people never think of is that with an outdoor plant could always
be pollinated by somebody else plants if they are within a reasonable distance of each
other. Imagine two growers in the same building or next door and one grower lets the
pollen fly. There is a chance that the other grower would get some pollination.

I'm not saying this happened here. But I imagine it's happened before.

I have a neighbor who lives about 100 yards away. His plants are about 75 yards from my plants.

I had bought a bag of 1500 lady-bugs. Maybe 500 of them went to the Cannabis plants on the deck.

Within a day or 2, the neighbor had lady-bugs crawling on his plants.

Pollen doesn't spread exactly like lady-bugs.

Speaking of neighbors with males ... one of my seedlings is looking real strong and also, male.

Normally what works best with that is, to take a clone and to let the chickens eat the seedling male because the timing will be off.

But if I set up a flowering chamber now under about 60 watts of LED's, and used the exhaust fan ... I'd be blowing active pollen and there's a good chance the neighbor would have some seeds from it.

Especially in an urban situation where you might have 100 or 1000 condo's in a city block ... I would just plan on the air having pollen in it, and maybe use some very fine mesh fabric to filter it.

I think it's too early to attribute the pollen source to the big plant in early flowering.

There is no way to tell. You may not get any more male parts, or it could explode with balls everywhere.

That's why I said to to monitor it. It could go either way. The only thing to do is watch and wait.

My balcony is facing south, so the plant has full direct sun from about 9 am to 3:30 pm. I checked closely the lower portion near the wall and didn't find nanners. To my surprise, even if they don't get as much sun, the heads near the wall are developing nice little white hairs balls.

What do you mean by ''heavy'' dosage of nutrients? I started giving them fish emulsion (2-4-0.5) and seaweed extract (0.2-0.5-17) weekly (following correctly the dosage) since about 2 weeks. Maybe it's too much...I'll keep an eye on that but so far I haven't seen sign of nute burn or anything bad.

Ok then, I'll watch the plant closely and hope for the best!

I'm feeling a bit better about this now. Thanks everyone for the replies, I really appreciate it.

you 100% didn't over fertilize, those emulsions and organic extracts are very forgiving and actually take time to work. You should brew teas using those ingredients and a few more like EWC, etc... , all you will ever need with good soil.

you have quite the anomaly going on, but I really think its an outside source of pollen from some one else par taking on ze adventure
