Need help picking a AC unit for 6400 watts cob cree

Hello ICMag,

I'm building a new room in my basement going feom intake to seal room to beat the summer heat and pest problem.

I'm running 6400watts (800 watt x 8 lights 4x4 scrog) growing tree's style 1 plant per light. Vegging 10 weeks and flowering 10 weeks.

Please advice for AC BTU capacity enough for the room (will a 24k work or do i need the 36k)
Also, what brand will be bang for the buck and reliable quality to avoid any problem during critical timing.

Was looking at the ideal air cuz they're made for horticulture. Does anyone have experience on them, please give a review and advice. If not, ideal air what brand should I go for?

My budget is $2500

1 watt = 3.41 btuh.

6400 watts ~22,000 btuh minimum.

add up all your other internal heat gains and add in your external heat gain and you should be in the ball park.

unfortunatly... you are already at the upper margin for your lighting heat gain alone.

its very very likely you will need to move to 30,000 btuh ( 2.5 tonn) and maby 3 tonn (36,000) btuh.

far as brands? a minisplit is your best option imo... price is quite high compared to a conventional split system, but they are much easier to install.

if you are hiring out the install, then by all means get a conventional split system.

ideal air is one of those precharged lineset systems... not a good option imo, but if you dont want to do an actual install go for it i guess.

id pick another brand besides ideal air, LG make a nice 30k 18 seer for around $1900

if you can afford it id reccomend that you get installed by an hvac tech. they are going to want at least 5 grand though.

they will not honor a warranty sold through these websites in all likelyhood.

they have no control over who installs them when sold online... so your parts warranty is probably going to be worthless. even when you buy them online and have a pro install them... the warante is still worthless as they were bought in another state so you cannot just go up to the supply house and swap a broken board over the counter.

problem with VRF systems is always the plethora of parts... some parts like the inverter board can cost as much as a grand for high end Trane systems... the mitsubishi stuff is probably like half that though.

all that being said, if its installed right your problems should be minimum. just dont expect warantee exchanges to happen.
