Hey guys I ran my first grow trainwreck turned out pretty good but i figured i could do better and I wanted to fix my room up and by starting i wanted proper ventilation i've been trying to figure out a way to vent my closet without making holes into the sliding doors.

heres what i was thinking:
i install a 30 inch long piece of wood about 2-3 inchs thick on the top left side of the doors in the inside within that piece of wood i drill a 4 inch whole to vent out. cover the side with blackout material keeping it velcro shut and instead of closing my sliding doors i leave them open about 5 inchs on each siding making the vent open to my room while keeping it lightproof.

soo thats pretty much what ive figured out but i havent figured out what kind of fan to get and how to link the vents outside so it is properly used an explanation on how to do so would help i dont get the whole purpose and where i should link the duct and the fan connected, do i need two wholes? one to intake and one to exhaust the air? a quick explanation would help

heres a quick picture i sketched on paint quick quick hopefully it will give you an idea of what im trying to do. the middle wood part is only there to hold the black/white polyester shut note the material is illustarted by the shitty gray stripped lines lol

Why not just make hole in the back of the cab? Use a 4" inline fan and a few 4" passive inlets (also in the back), attach a carbon filter and done. Many have done it this way when keeping it stealthy. Just make sure the room gets lots of fresh air.

because it is not my house i am renting out an apartment and i would rather that the owners do not notice eventually there is 4 inch holes in the wall :S any other suggestion?

Go to Lowes or Home dePot and buy a cheap door for $30. Hang it in place of your existing door then cut away. Put the existing door flat under your bed and when it's time to move, or time for an inspection, just put it back up.

BTW - You want to make holes, not wholes.

regardless about the door or not but would that idea work with the piece of wood on the top? and do i only need 1 exhaust hole? or i have to make multiple holes?

Read up on ventilation from many posts around here, DIY tutorials, ect. to figure out how much air to exhaust. You don't say what kind of lighting you've got and that is a factor. Ideally you want to aim for around 4 air changes per minute but if the closet is alot bigger than your grow space you could probably cut that, but not below the minimum to keep heat buildup from the lighting.

It's a little hard to tell from your photo but you're saying they are sliding doors right? Basically I think you just want to install a filler panel and slide the door shut against it. Seems like the simple solution is to take a piece of 3/4" thick plywood about 6" wide by the height of the opening. Mount the fan at the top and put a passive air intake with a light baffle at the bottom. The passive intake wants to be between 1.5-2 times the fan outlet size. You can attach the panel to the jamb with a angle bracket or just wedge in into place if you need to be able to hide it and close the doors when the LL comes over.
