I grow in soil and I recently moved to a new grow location that has an out-of-the-tap water PH of 8.5 which is much higher than i'm used to growing with. The past few places i've lived before have been nicely balanced to at or near 7.0 right out of the tap.
I've been trying to figure out how best to balance the PH in my 1 gallon watering can and having a hell of a time. I'm finding that if I add a single TSP of GH FloraNova Grow liquid food (~300ppm/gal) it drops my PH all the way from a 8.5 all the way to an 6.85. This was great at first but i'd like to go above 300ppm some day soon and any attempts to add more food drop my PH down into the 5.X's/
Now obviously I can add PH UP to counter this but I've never had to use PH-UP in the past so I'm trying to figure out if there is something I havent considered at play here. Is the disparity between the GH FloraNova Grow PH and the high out-of-the-tap PH I have causing this? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
