That depends on alot. If it is mostly an indica strain it will be more short and bushy but if it is more sativa dominant then it will tend to be taller and lankier. Your best bet is to measure the amount of space that you are going to dedicate to your grow and then start researching strains that are better suited to you. If you are strapped for space then I would recommend smaller autoflowering strains such as lowryder, lowryder #2 or lowryder hybrids such as powerstout, masterlow, or blue streak from the breeder Mdanzig. There are alot of pictures of these types of strains here on this site just run some searches for some. Try the micro grow section of this site, here is the link for it http://www.icmag.com/ic/forumdisplay.php?forumid=65545
These are my Haze plants that were just about exactly a month old in these pictures on Nov 4th. They are in 2L( 1/2 gallon) pots. And are about 16-18" tall. The shelf is a 1x12 4 feet long for some perspective.

EDIT add: I forgot to tell you that those plants have been topped, some twice, the first time about 3 days before the pictures. So they would have been probably 20-22" tallif not topped.
Strain has a lot to do with it along with pot size and nutes. Hard to tell you how much to allow. In general I think the indicas will stay shorter(than sativas) the first 30 days, but not always. Some of my haze plants got off to slow shakey starts...So did the Durban poison. Then they just took off. Most of the growth you see has been in the last 2 weeks.
thanks dude i plan on growing mine in lile party cups to start there maybe 16 ounce cups i need my plants to be small though so do u think i should trim them ?
I sprouted mine in 9oz Solo cups. I went from those to 1L containers(walmart paint cups, clear so I could see when they were rootbound, etc) From those to 3L containers they are in now at about 5-6 weeks old. You can see my plants on the Ultimate Sativa Grow thread. My fluorescent light shelf etc.
You can keep them small to a degree, but depending on the genetics it may be tuff. These haze hybrids I have really want to take off and grow HUGE because that's what is in the plant's genetic makeup. You can't fight that but so much without screwing up the plant.
You can top them. I topped some of mine twice, and supercropped on top of that. And now I tied down the supercropped branches...and gonna say a prayer on top of that!
What you should do though to keep them small depends on how you intend to grow them out and finish them. So you need to decide that first IMO.
Oh. I would not trim anything off them unless it was a badly screwed up leaf or branch....if you are talking about lower foliage. After the plant has 5-6 nice nodes, then you can think about trimming IF there is a reason....but
Why do you want to trim? and what are you trimming? The plant really needs those big fans when it is growing vigorously during veg and stretching.
Now, if you're going to do a scrog, then obviously your going to do some trimming to shape the plant, etc. for your grow.
Then I would suggest topping and/or supercropping them myself. Everyone will have an opinion though. Topping will keep them shorter but bushier. That might be a good thing if going outside...lower profile.

This one was topped twice and supercropped. Then I tied it like you see it. I'd love to see it grow out outside, but impossible at my latitude
