I've got the iPod Nano for the gym. Super small and lightweight.

sansa clip plays almost all formats and is pretty sweet. From what I understand smart phones have crippled the market. I don't WANT a tracking device that can listen and sends out GPS coordinates continuously in real time so FUCK yer smart phones.

If you have a lot of existing music that youd like to use on it, i would look into MP3 players that you can hook up to a computer like a storage device, not a sync device.
My brothers have always had trouble with the ipods either resyncing songs or deleting everything on the device in certain situations.

If you have an iphone and thats trouble for you, i would look elsewhere beyond the ipod.

I use Android, so i have no problem loading all of the music on via USB cable or micro sd cards.

Good luck!

I've been using the iPod classic forever. Great rig! Highly suggested.

Just did some research:

Having just received the Classic this morning (direct from Apple, not an Amazon purchase) I synced a few tracks and tried it out and I was immediately disappointed. For a start, the volume is MUCH lower than the iPod Touch and I simply could not get any decent power out of it, even through a pair of £200 Sennheiser headphones (and that was with max volume, removing the limit from the setup menu). Even worse was the sound quality which simply does not compare to the iPod Touch or any other music player I could mention - it has a noticably 'tinny' sound with poor frequency response that makes everything sound awful.

Some dude on amazon says volume is low and sound qality is crap

Is that true?

Spotify has eliminated my need for mp3 files and downloading/uploading music. You can get Spotify on any mobile device now a days.

I've owned a 250gb iPod classic and a 60gb iPod touch and there were no noticeable differences in playback or volume level.

I've found a lot of obscure shit on there. With the stuff I listen to its worth it IMO but of course it doesn't have every thing. Plus I can listen on my mobile then go home and plug in a Bluetooth speaker and have the same music on multiple devices or share playlists with friends if I want.
