I saw that, but I also wasn't sure whether that was due to the gas tank size or whether it was rated to run only 10 hours at a time. I've heard of people running those portable gasoline generators (you know, the $400 things available from Home Depot) almost continuously for the past year with a larger gas tank in Florida after the hurricane damage. Apparently a lot of people are doing this, and buying "second-rate" gas directly from fuel companies (tankers come to their house!). Don't know the details, but it came up in a conversation one day.
I think 10 hrs is to do with how long a full tank of gas lasts. I was thinking of buying an 800 watt generator to use as back-up for a 600 watt hps just incase there is a power cut. God knows why anyone would need a 6kw generator, that sounds like serious overkill.
interesting idea... ive always thought about using a gen. I think that might be a bit on the annoying side as fas as noise/refueling. might be worth the trade off if you had a pretty quiet one.....and you could always very eaisily rigg up a oversized tank. now you got me thinkin.....
Some commercial growers use generators to grow "off the grid".
I understand some of the operations use natural gas generators (quiet, exhaust can be used for CO2, no need to "refuel"); but wouldn't LEO be able to track down large amounts of natural gas usage too? Dunno..
they dot even provide a photo/illustration!!!
it runs at 3600 rpm (bad deal!!! motor wont last long!!)
it sounds like a piece of shit unit that comes from red china and made to look like a more quality unit offer by "Yanmar" (good stuff !!)
if u wanna go gensets off grid get a pair of "SDMO" silent enclosure packages and run them on a on/off cycle but to buy and set them up will run u 20 to 40 K depending on ur wattage needs (only applicable to a commercial show) IMHO
they run at 1800 rpm (preffered speed for efficiency and longevity of the unit)
the SDMOs use mitsubishi diesels in their low to mid range offerings
simalar quality can be found from KUBOTA , IZUZU, LISTER PETTER,ONAN diesel powered units as long as the generator head is of good quality!
clown:stay away from the piece of shit (i suspect) is offered to the highest "chump" bidder!
would think so... unless of course you could get it second hand from a gas dealer.. or do natural gas dealers even exist???? and then youd have to have it delivered... or youd have to have ome serious tankage to pick it up!!!
oh no!!! not one of those peices of shit.... my friend had one like that.. for camping... that thing took a shit after thier first trip. i was called over to see if i could get it running.. I looked at the quality(piss poor)...super cheap china parts!! I got that little peice of shit running again, prolly didnt last long. LMAO!
buzzsmirk, oh, no, I wasn't shopping for a generator. I can barely afford a new ballast!
I just ran into it while checking out what, if any, interesting clones might be available on craigslist (the generator ad had the word "clone" in it I guess) and thought that someone else here might be interested and saw a low-ish looking price. I don't know the first thing about generators, honestly, and have no real interest in them.
Either way, thanks for the info. on that, I would have never known (about RPMs and such).
Yes, they're typically a utility company. And at least in the US, it's typically run to houses via underground pipes. Out here in California, it's Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E). My parents' house on the East Coast came equipped with a backup natural gas generator hooked up to whatever thingamajig that's supposed to automatically switch over to the generator power if the power goes out.
Back when I worked in the IT industry, we put production Internet servers in places called "Internet Data Centers". Big buildings that are used to house companies' "external" computers, or any other mission-critical machines that need to be connected to a fat Internet pipe, etc. LOTS of juice running through those places (many have their own substations). Anyways when we shopped for a new IDC, they'd give us a tour, etc. And every single one of them would have in their presentation something about how great their power backup system is, how they have huge banks of battery backup (for instant switching) and generators with fuel tanks enough to last something like a few weeks (I think; maybe more), and how they were on the #1 priority list (along with hospitals and such) on getting refueled in the case of major natural disaster. So I guess these places all run diesel instead of natural gas, since natural gas lines probably wouldn't be a good idea as a protection against earthquakes.
LOL, I'm assuming you're referring to Gary's show. I've actually never seen it, and I don't know anything about it except that picturing Gary Coleman say "Whatchu talkin' bout, Willis?" is funny as fuck.
i can deal with the little dude "gary colema " alot better than the coke bottle specticled nerd dude u had before ( made me sick lookin at him i wanted to shoot him!)
stay clear of "stonewall" he will put you to work!!! (no pay either , just room/board and all the whippin u need to stay "in line")
BUZZ!
