Navigator has Heart Attack @ 27

Hello Fellow IC'rs,

Last nite i smoked my nightly herb and fell asleep. I woke up around 2:55am tto a very sharp pain in my left arm, jaw and neck. Long story short.. i ended up in the ER. Dr. said i had a small heart attack. Im so young i never dreamed it! I have gained 30 pounds since last june because of some meds im on..... but i only weigh 185 so, what the hell? My blood pressure is 156/91 !!!! Im on suboxone for opiate addiction, tramadol and Effexor XR. The doctors have made my health terrible. I eat well and take care of myself. Depression meds are bullshit.... The ER doc metioned it may been relative to my condition!

Im just resting here until they release me..... hopefully i will make! :badday:

I'm sorry to hear about that, friend. On a side note, you survived, so all is not lost. Best of luck to you in the future.

You just had a Heart Attack a couple of hours ago and your already able to post about it on ICMAG from the ER in the hospital? :nono: That must be a cool ER to have internet hook-up, thats what I call quality care & service.

You havent experienced a loss in your family or relationship wise have you? Sometimes the stress brought on by that can give false positive readings on EKG test and other heart attack related diagnostic machines.

Im sure you got the lecture about diet and exercise, stress management etc right?

Good luck

Yep, classic signs of a heart attack. Especially since you woke up to it. Effexor is some fugged up medecine dude. I've heard bad stories about that med.

Scary shit dude. good luck.
I have had a couple serious health issues and its definatly scary. Take care of yersef buddy.

Peace

very scary, I hate to ask, but do you have any (longer term) history of stimulant use, such as cocaine or amphetamines?

Those meds aren't usually associated with heart attack...

Scary for sure, try to get to the bottom of it, if there's a problem with the combination of meds you're on, it may strike again if given a chance.

I've often wondered if there have been any comprehensive long term studies of naltrexone (sp) use for extended periods of time, and any interactions it might have with other drugs. I know they say it doesn't really get absorbed, but I've seen studies where it has been proven that it is metabolized by the body. Regardless, wouldn't surprise me if folks haven't really thought twice about the naltrexone element to suboxone.

One BIG BIG BIG thing, assuming you do not have a history of cocaine use, amphetamine use, (you weren't in withdrawal from anything at the time right... no benzos, alcohol, etc) and your heart is in good shape (if you've been exposed to any IV drug use, sometimes bad stuff can happen) there is absolutely NO REASON to have a heart attack at 27.

I wouldn't let this go without seriously trying to get to the bottom of how it happened. Any doctor worth his salt will do the same, 27 year old should not have a heart attack, to me this screams something acute.

Nav, 156/91 barely qualifies as mild hypertension and doesnt even require medication. My blood pressure has averaged 150/90 for most of my adult life and I have never even had to take meds for it. Hell, a small kids blood pressure goes higher then 156/91 when they hit a home-run in little league ball.

damn navigator, sorry to hear that. i knew someone that had a mild heart attack in the 7th grade from too much salty foods, so it can happen at anytime, but, its good your still here

Trouble: My blood pressure a year ago before seeking opiate addiction treatment was a normal 120/80..... thats where the problem is.

1love1earth: I have been an opiate addict for about 10 years... until about 10 months ago. Uppers were not my thing. I have been clean since....

Thanks everyone for the support, i am home resting now. Cant wait to taste my herb again!

Life can be rough, know alot of folks that have had suboxone, and it's a wonder drug compared to methadone, I'm just hoping that in 20 years we haven't discovered something terrible about it as we have with so many that have come before... ie heroin, the wonder cure for morphine addiction, and methadone, the wonder cure for heroin addiction... methadone more than any other I feel is a one way street, and sketchy as hell. We're talking physical dependency here folks, ability to go to work is cut short if you can't afford your dose, often times dolled out by a (get this) for PROFIT clinic, first time many will cut your dose, 2nd time they'll cut it again, and 3rd time without money, you're SOL. Honestly it's legalized dope pushing, and that's sad.

Seriously though, if anything I posted earlier does flag for you (like the IV part, or anything else) please do follow up. Again no reason at all to have a heart attack at 27, period. Do you have any history of anxiety or panic attacks?

There's gotta be some red flag here that someone must have missed, not to say flukes don't happen, but it'd be shitty as hell to have another one, and even die while sleeping.

What's scary, is that fluke or no fluke, you shouldn't have one at 27. In theory if it's a major fluke, you'll go another 30 years+ without ever having another. If I was your doctor and you had insurance, I'd be running the works. I mean, if there are no immediate red flags, surely there must be one that can be found, as there is absolutely no reason to have one at your age, unless it's a severe side affect of drug combinations, in which case, that's HUGE and will continue to resurface as long as you are on the meds you are.

Either way, stay healthy, stay safe, and live a long long long life.

I totally agree with you on the legalized dope pusher theory. My doc that i have from treatment charges me 90$ a visit plus i get my pills.... 500$ for 1 month.... cash, no insurance. I have been on suboxone for 10 months, if i dont take my pills on time everyday i feel just as sick as if i were still using. It rediculous and now i wonder if all the pills im on is making my life worse. I have gained over 30 pounds and i sleep for 14+ becuase i cant get up or wake up at least!

I'm sure it all ties into this weekends drama!

Peace
