Laughing Buddha Nursery of Metarie, Louisiana is DEA FRONT
by Marc Emery (24 Apr, 2007)

The Laughing Buddha Nursey in the New Orleans suburb of Metarie, Louisiana assists the DEA in entrapping its customers.

The Laughing Buddha Nursery owner Grant Estrada wasn't laughing when I called him up and said " Grant Estrada, I'm doing an article on how you are co-operating with DEA and informing on your clients and assisting in the prosecution of your clients. Are you co-operating with DEA, setting up your clients and accepting blood money to do this? "

Grant Estrada replied, " I can't talk about that now " and very nervously hung up the phone.

Grant Estrada is most definitely a narc of the worst sort and has set up one, and probably is in the process of setting up many more, growers of the herb.

Google The Laughing Buddha Nursery in Metarie, Louisiana, and you don't get any clue Estrada and his DEA-front store are in the day to day business of narking out customers to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The store owner and snitch
The store owner and snitch
Laughing Buddha Nursery
4516 Clearview Pkwy
Metarie, LA
Phone: (504) 887-4336 (ask for Grant)

You see he sells orchids, helped out after Hurricane Katrina, but mysteriously, there is no Google reference to the fact, established in a Baton Rouge, Louisiana court earlier this year, that GRANT ESTRADA accepted $6,000 from DEA in order to inform on his hydroponic store clients, specifically one JUAN LOPEZ, who bought thousands of dollars of equipment at Estrada's store, with Estrada's urging. In fact, Estrada told his customer Lopez at Laughing Buddha (whew, those DEA guys and their sense of humor) , that he would even sell the marijuana if Lopez would grow it.

After spending $15,000 on building a marijuana grow room with Estrada's enthusiastic encouragement and assistance, DEA raided Lopez in February of 2005. At his trial, DEA did not disclose that it was paying Estrada to do exactly what he did, encourage and entrap growers or would be growers.

Now, a new judge may order a new trial for Juan Lopez, who was sentenced to five to twenty years in jail and has been incarcerated since July 2005. The DEA-FRONT Laughing Buddha hydroponics store owner Grant Estrada actually convinced Lopez to get into the business, and provided the actual marijuana plant cuttings to Lopez, and promised to find a buyer for those plants.

While Lopez languishes in jail for being gullible, Estrada is doing fine selling out growers as of the time I called him for his comments on April 24, 2007.

Prosecutors fought to hide the blood money informant payments to Estrada. During the trial, Judge James Brady refused to let Lopez' attorney put Grant Estrada - informant - on the stand, claiming it would be "irrelevent."

To confirm this story, research articles by Penny Brown Roberts for the Metarie Advocate.

My advice is for Louisiana activists to put this store out of business immediately by picketing the LAUGHING BUDDHA NURSERY at 4516 Clearview Parkway in Metarie, just outside of New Orleans. Signs with " LAUGHING BUDDHA IS A DEA FRONT"
"GRANT ESTRADA - DEA SNITCH" .

Put this bastard out of business. Remember Juan Lopez could spend most of his life in jail. Make sure GRANT ESTRADA can never harm another gardener ever again.

If you want to help Juan Lopez win a retrial for entrapment, you can contact his lawyer, John Di Giulio, at 225-383-0078 or by email at [email protected]

It's a mistake to even go to hydroponics shops when most of the items there can be bought at stores that are inconspicuous.

This will serve as a lesson to those who think that they can get away with growing for a living. Spending thousands in a hydroponic shop will send any governments red flag up in the air.

I've been saying it a long time. Operation Green Merchant never ended.

What a douche bag!!!

I pretty much always take things for granted here in BC when it comes to buying supplies and equipment. Hopefully thing change in the USA! :joint:

Hydro store owners that sell closet grow merchandise are a sketchy lot indeed. I always try to talk my friend out of going to a local hydro shop that obviously focuses on cannabis and even does radio ads. I always laugh at the extremely sickly basil plants sitting in expensive hydro systems knowing that the owner has a masters in horticulture and can't even grow basil. I know more than one customer who he has tried to engage in thinly veiled discussions on cannabis cultivation.

That said I used to go to a more legitimate and reputable greenhouse supplier until the owner tipped the police off on a vietnamese man for simply buying 300 2 gallon pots. It is nice having access to high quality liquid nutrients like pure blend pro and biobizz but definitely very risky obtaining them in just about any manner.

Most of the attention would be focused on people who obviously have a grow going on. I don't mean a closet grow either. If you walk into a hydro shop and buy 2 high wattage lights, a dozen pots, and gallons of nutes...don't be surprise if you become a target. Pay cash, buy small amounts from many shops if you have to...laziness can get you caught faster than anything but greed.

I have been buying from hydro shops for over 10 years and never heard a peep....but I take precautions.

1) Always pay cash..but dont flash a big wad or show up looking like a "head" or "Gangsta"
2) Be polite but don't talk about anything personal or about your grow. You would be astonished at the amount of info people give away in a simple conversation to complete strangers
3) Use more than one shop if yoyu need more than a hundred bucks worth of goodies...make the trip and reduce your risk.
4) learn a bit about another crop similar to your cropo so you can speak convincingly about it if questioned. Don't claim you grow peppers and not know a single variety name...
5) Don't do anything stupid like carry pot with you when you are shopping...

Peace

unreal, people like that deserve to be .. well something bad. Man if everyone lived my a few simple standard "be nice" "don't mess with other peoples stuff" "don't steal" and mostly "don't do anything to anyone you would want done to your self" this world would be so great!

if they could only concentrate this hard on rapists and murders (since we're lumped in the same boat legally, as "felons") and stop wasting their time on plant growers...

aww...nevermind. waste of time....

be safe out there.

yeah good advice,

#6) Use someone else's car or have them drive you. Never go directly to the grow site after the shopping trip.

Would you guys think it would make sense to engage the store owner in marijuana discussion as a way to see if they are potential narcs?

The way I see it, if they are a real hydroponics shop, they would either warn against growing marijuana or simply not talk about the issue in the store. I would have seen millions of red flags going up if the store owner asked me specifically about growing marijuana and offered to help me as well. I think that's bullshit.

In this culture, we are always looking for connections and to widen our individual circles but there's always a way to do things and a way to NOT do things. Subtlety is key. We can blame Grant Estrada for all of this but Juan Lopez deserves a lot of the blame for outright trusting a stranger. In most situations, that's simply not smart. In illegal situations, that is a definite NO-NO!

Maybe, I am too harsh on Juan Lopez but I think this ought to be a lesson learned for all of us. Keep your mouth shut, use cash, and don't trust strangers.

i wouldn't even call this guy. if he's a big time narc, i'd suspect his phone lines are tapped. i would bet every phone call he gets is probably $50 in his pocket and a new individual for the DEA to check out which is probably why he was ok talking to you. they probably ran a trace and already have a fat folder full of shit. all i can say is that i hope not.
