I say go with the best... mylar. Panda film and flat white paint are ok I suppose if u r short of money. But its never a waste really if u consider what u get in the end of the journey.
whatever u do, just don't be silly and go use aluminium foil or mirror....hot spots.
None of the 3 is a Waste of Time IMHO. They all reflect real well. It really depends on your budget or specific needs. Think about what you need in terms of blocking possible light leaks, durability, cleaning and accessibility.
1. It is easy to work with. Mylar gets wadded up, Panda film can be reworked and stretched out; it is easy to stick onto stuff with adhesives like 3M, pick up and reposition.
2. It diffuses light rather than focusing it like Mylar does.
3. It has thermal mass, so it helps diffuse heat over a period of time.
I suggest flat white exterior house paint. It holds up well to the UV light and moisture.
If you've ever seen a room painted with it, you'll know what I mean.

Flat white paint! Jorge Cervantes says: Reflective Mylar reflects 90-95% of light, Flat white 85-93% Flat white is almost as good, its cheaper, it doesent tear, and it is very easy to install correctly.
If you want to see it in use, check out 3towns grow cab, I used Flat white paint.
Using flat white right now and it works good. Used mylar for the last grow but it got messy when my waterfarms would spash everywhere and dirty up the mylar.
Mylar is awesome when you put it up smooth and taught. 2mil thick stuff.
Flat white, I have messed around with mylar but I has to do a teardown for safety reasons and man did I curse that mylar.
Paint doen't require teardown and doesn't raise supicion......

I agree. I went with the flat white paint myself, and I would suggest it to others. You're not sacrificing much reflectivity, and it's just too simple not to use. It's nice to never have to worry about your reflective material again. Once you paint it, you're done. If you need to change things around often, then maybe the Panda paper would be better. It seems like anyone who uses Panda paper has only good things to say about it.
My vote: flat white paint. Mylar is good, if you have it tight, sometimes thats hard to do. Plus just for security reasons, noone is gonna say "why the hell is this room over here all white?" when if they seen mylar... "what the hell is this for?" -Opt
Roof paint from Home Depot...reflects 97% light and heat...water proof, mold inhibitors, plus it's cheap. It gets it's refelctive properties from having a high titanium content.
If someone busts in on your grow... whether your walls are white or shiney is the least of your problems. If you're growing secure people won't see anything, right?
But.....there is this obscure do-it-yourself satellite dish and solar panel sites.......but it is possible to obtain 5 mil mylar and even
10 mil mylar......thats if you want yer mylar to be a little sturdier than the flimsy,
rippable mylar which is available at retail stores now........
There are many scientific uses for mylar......i do research for a laboratory where mylar
is used like it is going out of style!!! But if you want to conserve your mylar and
utilize it effectively, here is a tip from your friendly neighborhood guineapig......
So you have your roll of mylar. Take that mylar and put it on the floor.
Then take a big sheet of poster board and lay it on the floor next to the mylar.
Then get some of that 3M Spray On Glue and spray it all over the poster board.
(Other squirt glues like that gorilla glue will work also, but that spray on glue is best)
Carefully unroll the mylar so it is perfectly flat on the poster board with no wrinkles.
Trim off the excess mylar which is hanging over the edges of the poster board.
Voila!!! You have a sturdy "Mylar Board" which you can cut to whatever specifications you want.....use it to partition off some of the room where light is being
wasted.....also you can cut out squares of your new Mylar Board and angle them on
your square planters or plastic containers so that light is reflected upward......this is
especially helpful for little seedlings which sometimes need all the light they can get
especially when fluorescents are being utilized......
