I currently have panda plastic on my walls. Is there much to be gained by putting mylar over the walls as far as reflecting light better? Is it worth it?
I very strongly prefer flat white paint or B&W poly. If you have a small grow, it may be worth it to install mylar, as it's supposed to reflect more light, but it's brittle and flimsy (tears VERY easily and the shiny shit flakes off), it's hard to install and/or clean, and it needs to be replaced more often. The reason I prefer B&W poly or flat white paint is for durability, cleaning, and maintenance purposes.
If you want higher reflectivity, you might try some of that Lightite Diamond foil stuff, Lightning 97, etc., as they are more durable and easy to install/clean than mylar.
I use this stuff call Sunlight Ultra Reflect. Very Durable, Easy to wipe down and very versatile stuff. I actually made some reflector panels for my grow op...
Good stuff, HF. Looks like really durable version of mylar!
As for white paint, naturally. It would have cost me the same to use white paint on my drawer (or a couple bucks more) but I opted for some cheap poly-emergency blanket type reflectivity. If I had good ventilation (a garage or yard) I definitely would have went with white paint. but I'm in an apartment so I went with the mylar and double sided tape..
which was a complete pain in the A to put on.
they have some stuff just like what HydroFarmer linked at my local hydro store for about the same price, but I refuse to shop there for fear of government watching them OR store owners having friends waiting to follow me to my place / etc etc... I went there for a bag of soil and buckets so I parked a mile away on a side street to ensure no one was following. oh and obviously paid cash.
Mylar is slightly more reflective than panda film (b/w poly), but the panda film is more durable (6mm vs 2mm thickness) and easier to clean. You can even get adhesive zipper assemblies for them to create a tent. I paid 25 bucks shipped for a huge 20' x 10' roll on ebay. Worth every penny.
