My puppy was hit by a car. Gah...... I Don't even know what to say... it's been a horribly crumby day... Man I'm gonna miss that dog badly... :badday: :badday: :badday:

:nono: :puppydoge

It will make me even sadder when a package likely comes in tomorrow.... I ordered a book on dog psychology, training, etc...

sorry, I had to vent :puppydoge

Sorry man, its never easy to deal with something like that. You can get through it though. Hope the best for you.

I know how you feel. I lost my 6 month old kitten to a car a few years back and I have to say I really never knew how much that cat meant to me until it was gone. Pets really find a special place in our hearts, and I hope that you feel better soon.

I know this may seem a bit too soon, but getting another dog is usually a good idea. When my cat was knocked down I just felt numb and empty, but as soon as I got another kitten I just felt happy that my cat had a good life and it (I hope) had fun, even if it wasn't very long.

I'll be smoking one for you and your puppy tonight. Again, I hope you feel better soon.

oh Kirby, my heart goes out to you. settle your nerves bro, and like Kizzattack said before me go out and get another puppy. you now know of a danger spot & might consider leash training or longer duration of it in that area next time. I live right on a state highway & kept my springer pupppy leashed for about 7 months before trusting her at all. Every time I saw her starting to focus on a car or truck coming towards us I'd wait until it was looming large and if she was still focused on it I'd give the leash a mighty tough tug & scold her "NO!" loudly followed by another tug. She lost interest in the roadway over time.

I also bought and used one of these to set up a safe perimeter for her when I gave that puppy to a friend where she no longer had her boundaries set for her by me.
It is the PetSafe 'Instant Fence' system, no buried wires as it works on radio waves from a base unit that you set the distance with. It will quickly contain a puppy in any size area from 15 to 90 feet away from the base.

PetSafe Instant Fence
Here's a link for the instant fence, you can find some great deals on eBay though if you're a diligent shopper/snipe bidder. I'd gladly help you pick the right items if you ever wanted to Kirby.

I understand all too well that the true investment is in your heart
and I hope you don't think I lectured you bro.......
I really feel quite badly for you, don't be down on yourself

thanks everyone, I really appreciate the kind sentiments. The mother of the puppy is our other dog, a Boxer/German Shepherd mix. The puppy was also half Australian Shepherd, so she was an unusually smart puppy with a gifted leaping ability. I was unprepared, as the other dog is on a 35' chain most of the time. We have a 7ft fence up, but after a few months of her building up speed, growing the fence was not a factor. She had only been jumping it and runnin' around the block for about two weeks. No one wants to learn a lesson that way, but it's happened, all will be remembered and life will go on. I don't want to say this is a sign or anything, but just yesterday my puppy chewed on the very top right of my book about memory techniques. It's a fascinating book, one I'll look back in many times..You could say this book holds more sentimental value then before... I don't want to say it's bittersweet... But in a way, it is.

R.I.P. great friend... this one is for ya :joint:

sorry to hear that. pet loss is so hard. my dog of 14yrs passed away two months ago. and even though she was old, she only died because she caught and ate a bird that must have been diseased. i had the dog so long she wsa like a sister/daughter to me..

my sympathy goes out to you and your family...

I'm lighting my favorite joint up now as we speak (the one I have as I just get into bed ready to relax and fall asleep). This one is for you and your puppy.
