My watering invention

Always in a quest to be lazy, I have invented in my head the ultimate addition to any soil grow. I'm pretty sure it can be done using Chinese labor for about 20 bucks a unit. My invention is simply a scale with wifi output to a computer app which each soil pot would sit on and constantly measure the weight of the pot, which would then send a signal to the computer when the weight reaches a low threshold, and in turn would alert you that the plant needs watering or even dispense a watering on its own.

Self watering solenoid would add 20 bucks to the cost though.

Why not use a moisture sensing relay to control a pump? They are very inexpensive on ebay and you wont need to recalibrate it constantly as your plants gain weight during flowering. Then it only waters when the soil reaches a certain moisture level.

I use a bathroom scale, the kind with a spring inside and a dial showing the weight.
It is not automatic but since I am in the room anyway it is easy to glance down and check the weight. I weigh the container with measured amounts of water before the growing starts and tag it for reference, allowing for the growing plant is not difficult.

Cheap and no batteries needed.

don't they have moisture meters ???? couldn't ya wire one in to a solenoid?? automation leads to laziness and you end up missing shit you otherwise would of found if you spent more time with your plants IMHO.....yeehaw..on that note I am settting up some blumats for one grow...
