My First Indoor Grow In Flowering

Thanks for stopping in!

While I have a few outdoor grows under my belt, I have quickly found out that indoor is a different beast. I've dealt with soil problems, over-fertilization, ph problems, humidity, temps have been way too high (upto 90° F), and just about everything else! The good news is I've almost made it though with something to show! I have learned a great deal and will be redesigning my space in shortly. Mainly the ventilation.

I'm growing 2 x White Rhino from Nirvana and various bag seeds. This being my first grow, I didn't want to lose all my expensive genetics with inexperience. As everyone always warns, scale back on the first grow and use it as a learning experience. I'm only using one of my 2 x 600 watters and half the plants. So in my mind, I have gained from that tip.

Anyway, on with the show!

The beginning:

Fast forward two months to yesterday:

I think they are a few days over two months from seed. They were vegged for approximately 28 days under a 400 Watt HPS.

Inefficient Ventilation:
This one 6" S&P fan sucking through 2 x 600 watt lights and a Can 33 Carbon Scrubber. As it turns out, this is totally not enough power, even for one light. It's exhausting out cracked window which leads to another problem- my intake comes from the same window space. At the time, I figured the outside air would cool the air for the intake. I was wrong.

After my redesign, the intake will come from an adjacent room. The air cooled lights will take air from that same adjacent room and be a straight shot out the window. For example: Adjacent Room > Lights > Fan > Out Window. That way I won't have to scrub the air cooled exhaust. A separate 6" S&P fan will exhaust air through the scrubber only. For example: Scrubber > Fan > Out window. The two exhausts will be exhausted out one 6" hole through a Y-split. The air cooled lights fan will be off when the lights are off. Does this make sense, and/or will it work?

Size is approximately 27" x 44" using a 400 watt HPS/MH light.

Thanks for the comments guys.

@ sgtcheapbeer - the White Rhino smells kind of fruity. They should finish first out of the group.

Can anyone give me an estimate on how long they think this White Rhino has left?

Great job for a first grow. Looks like you've got some nice buds there. Shouldn't be long now. Woohooo!! Nice feeling isn't it?

It sounds like your ventilation idea could work well, depending on temperatures and season. Always try to keep your ducting runs as short as possible with as few bends as possible.

Isolating the sealed hood with it's own exhaust system should help a lot.

Check your hood to make sure it has no leaks allowing unfiltered air to escape by being sucked through the hood. I was surprised how many leaks there were in my hood.

Nice job!

Thank you for your positive vibes fellas.

Just a little update, I've been busy framing a well to separate the grow area. We'll call this phase one of the Wise Garden Overhaul. I'm still thinking my ventilation idea will work- so thank you for your input. :good:

So anyway, pics...

Very impressive, so what growing "method" do you use? All of your plants are very tall and seem to have just one main stem? Newbie here sorry.

I'm using the Never-done-this-before method. It's functional, but not perfect. I will be training the ladies next round to get more bushy plants. Thanks for checkin it out!

Even when there're still white hairs??

not so much the hairs being white or not...this is when it comes time for ur personal preference to come through. Do you have a loop or just a magnifying glass to look at the trichomes? Honey brown is usually what I like...at least cloudy to light brown. I take them down when trichs that color and still have white pistols shooting out sometimes..:tiphat:

Thanks J.C. :) Yes, I do have a cheap magnifier.

What I take away from your comments is that the plants would be considered done when the trichs (those little loppi-pop looking things) are fading to amber? If that's the case, I doubt they're ready because I gave them a glace under the scope yesterday and they seemed cloudy white.

As for the grow- the construction is coming along nicely. I got my locked flowering room door on and all the wall panels have been installed. My next move it to wire in another 12-2 electric socket in the veg area.

I have an electromagnetic lock- does anyone know how to wire those damn things???

biged - I've had my share of problems in the outdoor arena too. Both of the White Rhinos have been harvested around 45-50 days as a guess. Maybe a bit too yearly but not by much. As matter-a-fact, I'm smoking on it now. It's a very good high- mellow, peaceful and very relaxing. Feeling good..........

I'll share pictures of the harvested White Rhino and plants at another time.

I'm noticing the buds are very airy. Is this because of my high temps or lack of co2? Or maybe both??

The room is coming along nicely. The veg area is all wired up with a 12 amp and I've done a few other smaller upgrades. My next steps are; sealing the veg and flowering area with poly, starting my next round of seeds and then hopefully harvesting the bag seeds. One of the plants definitely hermied. Are the seeds it produces viable, or are the genetics proven trash?

This grow is literally a year in the making. Everything has to be perfect because I cannot afford to be busted, especially for a hobby that provides high quality medicine without having to deal with shady dealers.

I guess it all comes down to luck sometimes.
