My first grow results (150w)

So I've learned a lot in the past few months, and had typically better results that I expected. But one the plants got to their maturity I got my hopes really high for how the final product would turn out, and its not turning out exactly like that.

Out of 4 plants there was one very small one, who was very crystally, 1 "normal" one, 1 sickish one, and 1 HUGE one. All of them (mostly the 'sick' one) have pretty fluffy buds, not at all like im used to buying/smoking. Some of these are so puffy that just a couple grams will looks like a ton.

Do buds just naturally grow more dense or is there something post-harvesting that I can do to condense them, or make them apear more normal? Here are a couple pics.

First pic is of the "normal" plant on the left, and all the braches of the big plant to the right of that.

This pic is of the buds from the "big" plant, they're probably the most dense out of all the plants, but they still arent that dense.

they will shrink a bit after drying.

and different strains are more or less dense and the amount of light can affect it as well.

but i think you did well with 150w, so what if theyre abit fluffy, as long as you enjoy it thats all that matters.

i agree, for a first grow, under a 150, the harvest looks just fine . enjoy.
p.s. ... there is a 150hps club here; check it out . sorry i dont know how to insert a link .

The lack of density in your buds is the result of your low light levels. But they look good apart from that.

If you moved up to a 400w you would see a huge difference...you just don't get dense, chunky buds with a 150 or a 250 unless you really know what you're doing.

For the record, I tried a kind of vertical grow with this, light on a chain in the middle that was lowered and plants all around it that were tied back to the walls of the box (if they got too close).

I wondered about doing something like that. If it's a small area it would probably work well with a nice 4" Vortex and a bake-a-round cool tube (or similar size). How big was your flower area?

I have a low power centrafugal fan at the top sucking air out and a little 4" fan at the bottom blowing up, never gets hot in there. Couldnt find a good cooltube, but I just tied the plants back to the sides of the box, never had any problems. Flowering area is about 2.75'w x 18"d x 3' h....I would make it a little deeper if I could do it over. Baby chamber was same depth and height but only 7" wide, id give that a full foot if I could do it over. Worked pretty well for the first time though.

Because of the type and position of the blower on top its extremely easy to fit it with a carbon scrubber, which im going to do shortly, ill post pics.

That sounds good, can't wait to see pics. I have almost the same size area but a little more height. The depth is kind of lame sometimes but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I really like the idea of keeping the plants on the side though. I could really maximize my light use in a small space.

I had the exact same problem and just posted about it in the 150w grow thread if you want to check out there as well.

Your being awful hard on yourself.

I don't know any growers that do so on a commercial scale - that could use a 150W grow, and you got to harvest,,,, and you are uptight because your buds are "airy",,, Ya did good!!!
Really good. It only gets better from here.

Now you start to see why cloning will be such a huge asset - you can choose for quantity or quality - - and while I continue to hope, the very best plants are always stingy with the budz. (poor yields) I've grown some plants that had great bag appeal - monster buds, super crystally, intoxicating aroma, but just average buzz factor. How frustrating!!! I like the ones that are special - the ones that are clearly private stash quality, because life is too short for average weed

As you sample your harvest, you will also see the differences between each plant.
Are they all the same strain?
I'll bet the one with the worst yield was your best plant,,
wana bet?
As your skills and genetics and equipment grows - so will your harvest.

It's all good!

What strain did you grow?

have pretty fluffy buds, not at all like im used to buying/smoking.

most weed that you will buy has been compressed at one time or another during the packing and shipping process... Also most of what you buy is indica dominant as commercial croppers don't grow long season fluffy bud sativas.

Only indica doms will give rock hard buds off the plant, no matter what wattage you're using.

here's some grapefruit I just grew under a 400 and you can see the buds are big and nice but they're not that dense.

same thing with this sativa dom pheno of a cross I made

now here's the other side of the cross showing the indica dom side of the family.
these last colas are much smaller but weigh as much as the ones in the pictures you saw above.

All grown under a 400watt hps in the same cabinet.

Basically what I'm saying is genetics make a big difference.

Gentics is a big factor. But so is the temp. in your grow room. If it's hot in there the buds tend to be more airy/fluffy. Maybe try and drop your temp. on next grow and see how that goes.
