My first grow in many years

This is my first grow since i was in my teens ... now that the kids are all grown & moved on & an ok from the wifey LOL . I started off with some sour diesel clones i got from a friend whos been growing out doors for the last 5 or 6 years .
am using a 250 watt & 400 watt hps lights & a 150 watt hps for cloning . using FFOF with MG potting soil & perilte soil mix . mostly FFOF 2/3 rds ..just using the MG soil to make the FF stretch . is expensive stuff ! . using the FF nutes trio . with some pure blend pro . All in 5 gallon buckets with a dozen holes drilled in the bottom for drain off in case i over water .

everything is going great so far , started them off in middle of may .... let them veg for too long though , had to tie the branches down cuz my cieling hieght is only 6'6" & they got to tall FAST !!! but they have been in flowering cycle for 2 weeks now & they're lookin great !!

these were some serious bushes !!! i trimmed them back alot to get more light down to the rest of the plants . but they are doing great !!! can't wait to sample this SD !!!

Been reading that to get truely fine SD .. they should flower for about 10 or 11 weeks .. is that true ??

If you have a Eyeloop or microscope you can use that even a magnifying glass 10x would work.

Ask your friend who gave you the clones if his shit is good then he's probably right

To be exact though you want to check the trichs. watch them turn from clear to milky and as they begin to have an amber appearance at the head you want to harvest that is the only sure fire way man the rest is guestimation.

Yea count on a long flower period dansbuds... ALSO keep them short.. SD are some stretchers... Last SD plant I grew got over 6ft!.. short veg is a must.. 10-12 weeks is just an estimate.. as stated before a 10-40x mag. pocketscope is your best friend.. checking the trichs will tell you when your ready

shakeyatl...wood planks ... is a room set up in my basement & no light during off hours are getting in .

they are about 4'6" now that i tied them down & the branches are growing towards the light again but i should be fine as far as hieght goes now .

I will veg them for a shorter time next time ... maybe a month at the most before flowering & am also going to top & train them next time too . ( is defenatly a learning experiance ) .

i knew about the trichs from reading here but don't have any type of magnifier ( may have to find one ) so was curious about flowering times . my buddy grows out doors so things & times are a little different .

lol yeap just when you think they have stopped for a bit they explode with new growth.. LOVE Sour Diesel... wish I had access to it again... by far some good quality smoke.. unique @ that... the taste is something you never forget ... as far as a pocket microscope goes.. you can get one @ radioshack (or equiv.) for like $8-$10, as far as a camera goes lol idk... I use the 8MP camera on my HTC Evo.. and the pics come out ok I guess... enough to show what im trying to say.. you'll be battling that orange glow from the light no matter what unless you move the plants to photograph em

OK ...What is the best & cheapest way to get rid of the smell ????? it wasn't bad at first , but now that they're flowering they're really startin to stink up the house !! I don't mind but the ol'lady is annoyed by it .

Its in my basement in a 6'x 8' with 7 ' ceiling room not very air tight but i could probably remedy that if i had to .only 2 plants in 5 gallon buckets . thought about venting it out the basement window but not really wanting to stink up the neighborhood either . ( low profile as possible ya know lol ) is their a cheap type of scrubber i can buy or make ???
i gotta do some research here but time is limited for me workin 12 to 13 hrs a day .

Photos .... you can buy a canon 10.0 Mp A480 refurbished for about $60. run CHDK (google CHDK). Use a notebook to block the HID ... casting a shadow over the plant and using the flash will get rid of most of the color distortion from the light.

odor: carbon filter, inline fan wih high enough rating to apply neg preasure to the room, duct to exhaust the odor free air .. do it right and you will only need to do it once.

will help but not as effective as a real RC 48 Australian Activated Carbon Filter.


odor security can be very important: whether DIY or purchased, it needs to be reliably effective.


also keep your humidity down as carbon is not effective in air scrubbing when wet.

humidity levels are at 47.5 % but was thinking of putting the filter outside the room & the intake fan just above the plants . with a good duct between them . should work ....yes ?

bought a panasonic whisper quiet 110 cfm bath exhaust fan & an 25" can filter with 4" flange ...same as exhaust fan . will seal as tight as possible with duct tape . hopefully will get here in a day or 2 .cost me a little over 200 bucks but if shes happy then i'm happy LMAO .

Heres the girls at 48 days ..... another month & they should be ready !!!
but will be checkin the trichs all this month . also gonna harvest in stages ... tops first as ready then the lower ones .... same with both plants . but i noticed that the plant under the 250 watt HPS .. the buds aren't as thick & dense as the plant under the 430 watter . so i'm hoping that they can grow a little more to fill out like the big one ... but we'll see .
