My first grow... Diary.

Hello folks, I'm new here as you can see. I registered so I can ask questions about my grow. But I figured out that It would be better if I have a log of some sort, so not to flood other people's threads with my pictures (as if my stupid questions aren't enough of a pain in the ass :biglaugh: )

So I don't have pics of the early days of my plants. But I'll try to compensate with words. I want to mention something from the start, I live in a country where the nutes and other products that most of you use (miracle grow and stuff) aren't available, so I do my best to find suitable subtitutes.

Well, I've been trying guerilla grows the last few years, but never done it seriously, so no results. This year, due to a lack of good weed on the market, and skyhigh prices me and my friends had no other choice. So we all took out our collections of bagseeds, collected only from the best smokes we ever had, and went out to mother nature to put them in soil... Well that was certainly stupid as most of the seeds didn't sprout... lesson learned (the hard way). Well actually there was one place where the seeds sprouted. It is on the bank of a small stream so the soil is always moist... It is a sweet spot, but we have to walk about 3-4 km trough the forest (uphill !!!) to get there, so we rarely visit them (actually just 3 times for now). Last time we visited them (about 3 weeks ago) they were all sexed, so we removed the males (4 big females left and 2 smaller ones), we'll visit them in another 2-3 weeks, this time with a camera.

So, except this one place, where the seeds sprouted, I figured that I should sprout the at home, grow them for a few weeks and the transplant them to the outside locations (damn, I'm a genius :gaga: ). We'll my friends didn't want to take that risk, and wanted to rely only on the grow in the forest (which at that time consisted of 3-4 baby plants).
I didn't like that idea, so I bought some soil, got few plastic coffee cups, sprouted some seeds in paper towel, and... Got me 10 babys. And then shit started happening. First off some f****n ants ate the baby leafs of a couple of my babys, don't have any idea where those came from, I live on the 5th floor, don't those pests have plants to mess with on the ground? Anyway after that I forgot them out in a storm... Well pretty soon I was left with 5 plants, starting to veg, looking good.
3 of them were on the 4th node so I took them out to their new home under the sky. The two left back at home were looking like dwarfs compared to them. Planted the 3 in their new home. On the very next day one was dead the stem was like biten (damn bugs), but since they were far from each other the other two were fine.

So I was left with 2 plants outside and two on my balcony. The ones outside had some rough time adapting, for more than a month they showed no growth, lost some leaves... they looked pretty bad. And that is with me watering them every single day, and giving them a 17,5-10-12 fert once a week. The plants at home on the other hand grew and grew bigger than the ones outside... And that was strange since the outside ones had 9 straight hours of direct sun, and those at home only 6.

So here come the first pics I took, 6th week since sprouting:
First the ones on my balcony:

Then the ones outside that just began to show some progress

Well at that time one of my friends came by and when he saw them he immediatley started a balcony grow too, heehee, fine by me, more pot for the long winter :rasta:

Just a couple of days later I did something stupid... Was toying around with a very strong fer 36% K, ferted the plants, went to the beach... and when I came back HORROR!!! One of the plants at home was very... VERY badly burned (I suppose nuteburn combined with heatstress, cause at that time temp under direct sunlight was around 90F). Strangely the other plant was just fine.
Oh and I forgot to mention that at this time the plants were sexed and both were females.

Here are pics of the burned plant (people with weak guts don't look :nono: )

By that time I had spider mites problem, So I treated the plants with tobacco/chilly syrup. Here my thanks go to MynameStitch and her wonderfull thread The Complete guide to Sick Plants,pH, and Pest troubles!. So here this is me, equipped with eyes/nose/mouth protection and the tobacco syrup, posing with the plant that isn't burned (the following pics are taken in the beggining of week 8):

Tried doing a macro on the budsites, but it didn't turn out very good:

And some refreshments for the night, they don't look like much, but they did the job :rasta:

About that time my friend's grow started shaping up:

Well now is mid week 9. One of my outside plants turned up male, so CHOP CHOP :beat-dead
Here's the other one, picture taken yesterday. :

Started flowring. The one back home is flowering too. The burned one is recovering fine, growing new leaves, but is pretty much short in comparrison with the other one. My friend got one male too, so he's left with 1 plant (female).

I'll update and get some new photos soon.

As for now I am a bit worried for my healthier plant back at home. Most of its leaf stems are reddish/purple, and has some reddish/purple "veins" on the main stem. Still not sure if it is the strain, or some NPK def. Still the plant seems perfectly fine, so I think it's the strain... Well that's the risk of growing a bagseed :joint:

P.S. I know that my tiny grow seems like a big laugh, but I'll be more than happy if I get a good smoke out of it. Made a lot of mistakes so far, even for a first-timer... but I hope next year I'll do much better.

Peace

Time for some update.
Here's the burned plant, recovering well. Many new leaves have sprouted.

And here's the other plant, now 20 days of flowering, has a few very swollen calyxes, but I just can't capture em with this cam.

And here's my friend's plant, looking good too.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it.
As for the plants, those in the pots are grown on my balcony. I have a few guerilla grows undergoing too. The last pic in my first post is one of them.
I am new to growing, but I really enjoy it. Already I'm making plans for next year :)

I am waiting for a friend of mine to give me his camera+tripod so I can make some nice macros. I hope soon I can provide new pics.

Hello again. A few new pics in daylight, still no camera with macro lens :nono:
First the plant that is recovering:

And the flowering plant

The close-ups aren't very good, but at least the calyxes can be seen.
Hope you like the pics

Edit: Can someone give me an advice on the red stems of the leaves on the flowering plant. Do you think it is some kind of nute defficiency, or is it just the strain's genetics?

R_blunt - The red leaf stem i wouldn't worry about, by the looks of things your plants are doing great, healthy looking. If you stick to a certain feed schedual then everything should be aok. just remember not to over feed them(feed every 8-10days). foliar feeding is another great method of direct food for the plants(try and only use organic ways of feeding).
PS. nice legs in the 1 pic lol.

Hello guys, today I made some new pics, so time for update :rasta:
So first here's my outside plant

It's been about ~3 weeks since she started flowering. She's pretty short, ~60cm (~2ft). I've made a DIY dripp waterring device for her, the bottle in the bushes is the "WaterTower" feeding it.

Home sweet home :rasta:

That's the plant that recovered from the burn:

She just started flowering too. It's been about a week, she looks very weak, but I hope I can get a few nice buds out of it.

And here's the other plant:

It's been 5 weeks since she started flowering. Today as I was taking photos of it, I noticed a few seeds (third pic, the black thing I'm pointing at). As I suspected the windy days have brought some wild bastards pollen... There's wild hemp growing all over here, and probably in less than 5km from where I live. I collected 3 seeds (almost entirely black, they look very nice), a can see a few more begining to pop out. I'am still not sure if I would keep them... The wild hemp around here has zero potency, but flowers really early (about this time it has very big buds).
While removing the seeds, for the first time I smelled the aroma of the plant... It smells so very nice and herbie
:rasta:

And finally my friend's plant:

It is flowering for 2 weeks now, ~1m tall (~3ft). A strange characteristic of this one is that it has many 3-bladed leaves, and has had a sweet aroma since it was a 3 node baby (and you don't even have to rub it, it just smells).

Well that's it for now, hope you like the pics.

Not much of an update... But I'm just very excited about the frosty trichs that are begining to cover up the plant.
I took this pic yesterday:

and a closeup of the same pic

makes me drool :rasta:

Anyway, with the first days of september came bad weather... rains, storms and cold nights. I've wrapped the pots with some cloth to keep the roots warm.

And something strange. My friend's planr which had a sweet aroma all the way until now, has now changed it's scent... It smells pretty strange, something like an onion breath :nono: no kidding.

Good progress you got going on here bro those ladies are looking sweet. Do you have a idea on how long it will take for those to finish?? Or are you using the microscope to tell?? Im hoping the weather in your area of the world will allow you to finish. Good luck bro!!!!

thanks InNvBoarder. I guess early October will be the time for harvest. I don't have a microscope, so I'll rely on my eyes only + a magnifying glass. Generally I'll wait untill half of the pistils are brown, then I'll start the flush.

Anyways, it's a sad day today... I've lost my outside plant :cuss: . Some MF has chopped her down, and even took my DIY water-dripping device. Gonna beat the hell of that bastard if I find out who he is. 3 months of care for that plant... and it's gone with the wind. And she was beautiful, at just 4 weeks of flowering she was ahead of my home plants. That's the last pic of her that I took:

I took it friday morning 5-6AM, while it was still dark, too bad you can't see how frosty she was. Today (Sunday) I visited the place at the same time (5-6AM) and I found nothing... I was gonna scream... damn.

And as they say, problems never come alone. There were some pretty strong winds these days, and they were flipping my pots back at home. The bigger plant fell down from 1/2 meters. Luckily there wasn't much harm, only 1 broken small branch... It made a nice first test smoke. And it didn't taste very bad, considering that I dried it for 30 minutes in the oven, the buzz was very light, but the important thing is there was a buzz :joint: And the feeling that I was smoking my own weed was just awesome :jump:

That's it for now. I'm gonna mourn that beauty, lost to some ignorant fool. I hope my balcony grow will finish. And really hope that the forest grow that was started by me and my friends is fine... We'll visit it at the end of the month... Problem is, if everything there is fine, it should be a large quantity if buds, and I don;t have any idea how we're gonna dry it... I'll be thinking over this until harvest time comes.

Halfway there!!!

Halfway there!!!

Heya ppl, InNvBoarder, J-Roc  ... ICMAG chat room is really a neat place for chilling out.
Soo, update time, heheh.
I haven't been around for a while, because my PSU blew up... Electric company guys came by, and I forgot to turn off my PC. Here's how a dead PSU looks like :)

Good thing I had this oldie, to entertain me.... and a couple of grams of potent weed :) I have forgotten what a wonderful game Super Mario 64 is.

OK, enough of non-grow related chit chat. My plants have advanced pretty well

The bigger one has increased its mass pretty much, and the smaller one has started developing buds too. The bigger plant lost many leaves (20+) and upper leaves started purpling. As far as I understand this leaf loss is normal... and it seems normal to me. Here's what has popped out in the place of the fallen leafs

Lots of fresh branches with mini buds on them, but I doubt those will have the time to develop. I think that about 25th Sept. will be the right time to start the flush, and somewhere around 10th Oct will be harvest time, at least for the bigger plant.

One thing I learned this year, is that my balcony is very exposed to winds, and 5km is nothing for wild hemp pollen.

All those seeds came out of my bigger plant. Still not sure what to do with em. As I previously mentioned local wild hemp has zero potency, but finishes early.... And this was a pretty dry summer, so the survived males should've been really sturdy.
Maybe in spring time I'll find a nice and sunny patch of land and spread the seeds there, and see what happens.

As for the end, look at that pic. I've started this plant at the same time as my plants. But I gave it to a friend who was very eager to have a MJ plant (mostly for the looks). Well I knew his apartament doesn't get much sun, but didn't expect such slow growth... Well if this baby doesn't die, he will have a nice decorative MJ plant for the winter
:rasta:
